So I suggest survival.
Oh by the way, harcore has oxygen warnings despite of what it says in the main menu. Not sure why it still says no O2 warnings in the main menu. The last time harcore didn't have O2 warnings was probably at least 1 or 2 years ago.
This is good advice for a vet player, or someone who has beaten the game. For a new player, Hardcore might just dissuade them from playing more. They won't get to enjoy the 'flow' of the story if they constantly have to hide or flee due to fear of starting over, or messing up and having to start over.
I wouldn't recommend Hardcore to a new player.
It strongly depends on the type of player, what he prefers. I have been playing hardcore from the very beginning. I never even tried survival. Whenever there is a hardcore or ironman or similar mode in a game, I'm gonna play it. That's why I said that everyone prefers a different mode, so it's hard to say what will be the most fun for him.
This is actully a good point. I'm looking at it from the general player point of view. Ineed to remember there are players like you who get the best enjoyment fromhardcore/iron man runs.
But I think with both of our explanations he can make a solid choice. :D
I played 2 full playthroughts of survival and started doing hardcore and I'll tell you... I've never said "OMG OMG" and "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ RUN RUN RUN" before I started doing hardcore lmao. It's been an absolute blast having that fear of permadeath making you deeply afraid of the environment and the predators.
Funny you should mention that. Lost a perfectly good playthrough because the PRAWN suit clipped through the ground and fell about 8.5k before it crushed. I was trying desparately to save it and ended up going down with the ship. Unsolicited advice, don't build a Moonpool on one of the ledges near the Floating Islands and then eject a PRAWN from it.
Second Hardcore playthrough was going swimmingly (get IT!) until I wandered too close to an exploding space ship. Laughed out loud when the "You're Dead, Game Over" message popped up.
Third Hardcore, I drowned like two feet from my Seamoth. I was exploring a wreck and ran low on O2. I literally had the prompt to enter the Seamoth one my screen when the "Game Over" message popped.
Fourth Hardcore playthrough started out great. I dropped from the lifepod and immediately had access to the Seamoth, Mobile Vehicle thingie and the little handheld motor thingie. Problem is that it also spawned me on top of Gasopods, with Bonesharks one direction and Stalkers on two other sides. All of the sharks were really aggressive. Even with all that, I managed to vacate the area and build a basic base from which to strike out. Needed Lithium so I went to the North island. There I had four Warpers that immediately went aggro and tore me to pieces.
Switched to Survival for my final try at finishing the plot. Hardcore has its charms and you definitely think each foray into dangerous waters through. There are just too many things that can sink a good playthrough for me to trust hardcore for that. Now. If I could get the "No Story" mode that Creative has and tack it onto Hardcore gameplay, I would very much enjoy that.
Then experiment with sandbox.
Then, once your body is ready, finish in hardcore.
The first time was a Seadragon that just happened to glitch out of a wall. Being close to that wall, I had no time to react and he swallowed me whole.
The other time I was unable to swim, dispite beeing in water. I was in a pit that had no exit if you can't swim.
I love this game and I would play it on Hardcore, if there wouldn't be so many bugs that can absolutely destroy you.
for me survival was boring after 2 playthroughs
my save file is now hardcore finnished that aswell but still messing about on that savefile trying to scan all creatures and making loads of bases
