Agreed, in 2024, given that a large portion of gamers now use ultra wide (a large part in thanks to channels like linustechtips promoting them), its insane that developers do not use the built in tools that already come with their most recent game engines. For me, not have support for higher resolutions is just baffling. Sure priority should be given to performance etc, but you can tell in this case the dev has not done any work on FOV or UI/UX outside of using the basic profile provided with the engine. Real shame as the game itself is really fun.
