Looks different from other giveaways (Left 4 Dead 2, Sniper Elite V2, Red Orchestra 2, etc).
Normally a 1-day giveaway is "Free" rather than "Free to Play" but because Steam is having a 'free weekend' for Consortium, that means its been listed differently. This has the unfortunate side effect of the game not showing up in peoples libraries unless its installed, and will also block card drops from happening as well. (Normally the free weekend games are listed differently so as not to permanently add them to your library, and to keep you from earning card drops without purchasing the game first.)
This might be a misunderstanding with how the developer listed the game, or this might be a special case where they will convert all of those free to play people into retail owners once the weekend ends.. but that seems.. fidgety.
If the developer gets a chance to read this, what they probably wanted to do instead was to set the game as "Free" until monday, that way the game would show up in the user's account whether or not it was installed, and there would be no doubt about whether or not they got to keep the game when the weekend was over. Having not done so, expect a -lot- of people to be posting questions. Would be good to make an announcement or sticky forum thread regarding this ahead of time to save yourself a lot of work over the next few days.
This basically is subverting any kind of marketing or promotion you were trying to do with this free weekend / giveaway.
"Play CONSORTIUM for FREE starting now through Monday at 10 AM Pacific Time. Anyone who gets the game from Steam this weekend will keep the game in their library forever!*"
I think the developer needs to change the billigtype for the default sub from 12 (Free on Demand) to 10 (No Cost) or create an alternate sub with the same info as the paid one but with the billying type as 10 (No Cost)
Then after the giveaway is closed switch it back to default pricing or just remove the giveaway sub from the store.
This way the game will stay user's libraries and everyone gets card drops.
Yes, but it has already been established that this doesn't actually work.
Thanks, captain
But it's the developer's choice and plans to do it that way so it is respectable and generous of course.
