What is rat tail?
When I am about to create a character I have an option to pick a rat tail for her. I dont understand what that is or if it affects gameplay in any way. I dont see any visual differences on my character model when I choose it... no rat tail pops up anywhere.

What is it really? what are the benefits/drawbacks of having one? Can you change your mind later in game and add or remove the rat tail you chose/didnt chose?

It's a small lock of hair that appears near the base of the skull. Doesn't seem to work with all the haircuts, but does with some of them. Very much doubt it has any impact on gameplay... it's just visual.

Yeah it's just cosmetic. You probably had long hair selected and it hides the rat tail under the hair. You can't currently change your hairstyle (or add/remove a rat tail) after creating your character, but I know we meant to. I'll write it down and get to it sometime soon.

It would be great if we could change appearance later in game as an option... :)

A way to change basic cosmetic character appearance will more than likely be added before release, either using scissors for hairstyles or something more in depth that allows gender/skin color/hair style and color changes.

Yeah, that's Steam's fault. They have to "verify" uploaded pictures to make sure they don't break any rules. Takes a while sometimes.

that sounds like a good idea. I think there should be a more in depth system available. I dont know but I think when you create a character currently there are not many options available. Like for example female only has one head, maybe some long hairstyles would be nice? For those who have already created a character and want to change it up when/if that update comes, it would be nice to have that alternative. :)
