How does a Free-Floating Firing Pin Work?
This question is addresed to all WoG Devs & players, it's about the "Free Floating Firing Pin" (as opposed to the common spring-loaded ones).

This "Free Floating Firing Pin" is used in many Russian rifles like AK, SKS, RPD, SVD, RPK, PKM, etc.
"Free Floating Firing Pin" doesn't have any spring or cocker attached to it so the Firing Pin kinda floats freely inside the bolt.
And it can cause "Slam Fire" accident.

As we all know about automatic gas-operated gun, before a shot the firing pin is placed at the rear of the bolt and then it gets strucked by the hammer or action spring making the firing pin move forward to hit the primer of the round inside the barrel chamber. Then the gas pushes the projectile out of the barrel while the inverted gas moves back through the gas port / gas block on the barrel pushing the gas piston backward thus pushing the Bolt Carrier (BC) backward as well (there's a camming on the BC that rotates the Bolt Head out of the chamber allowing it to move back with the BC). This BC's backward movement ejects the used round out of the receiver. Then the BC moves forward again loading a new round into the chamber. Same process happens all over again....

BUT during this process, i don't see how the "Free Floating Firing Pin" gets ♥♥♥♥♥♥ back to the rear of the bolt in its initial position. All I see is that the "Free Floating Firing Pin" stays in the same place at the front of the bolt until it slides back and hits the buffer

SO MY BIG QUESTIONS ARE:
1) How does the "Free Floating Firing Pin" get ♥♥♥♥♥♥ back to the rear of the bolt in its initial position??? How da hell does that "Free Floating Firing Pin" move backward to its initial position (inside the bolt) if it doesn't have any spring that pulls it backward after a shot???
2) Does it use the recoil & inertia when the Bolt Carrier slides back and hits the buffer?

I'm totally confused here :/
Hopefully you guys can enlighten me ^_^

Thanks in advance

Basically what happens is when the bolt group moves back forward the rear of the bullet puts just enough pressure on the firing pin to expose the rear of it to the hammer, the slam firing occours when the firing pin gets stuck in the forward most position and doesnt get pushed back by the rear of the bullet.

@-- : So basically what you're saying is that Free Floating Firing Pin is ♥♥♥♥♥♥ back by the pressure from the rear of the new bullet cartridge (the next bullet loaded into the barrel chamber), right? So by the time the spent bullet gets ejected out of the receiver, the Bolt Carrier moves back forward loading a new bullet into the barrel chamber and the rear of that new bullet pushes the firing pin backward a lil bit to expose the rear of the firing pin to the hammer, right? When Bolt Carrier chambers that new bullet, the firing pin is actually still in forward position and it touches the bullet's primer but it doesn't have enough pressure to blow it off so it gets pushed back then, right?

I also stumbled upon a video explaining how Free Floating Firing Pin actually works in SKS & what causes the Slam Fire. This video marries up to your explanation :)

thank you so much for the answer, mate!

@WOG DEVELOPERS:
the animation of Free Floating Firing Pin in WoG is kinda mistaken!
In this game, it seems like the Free Floating Firing Pin gets ♥♥♥♥♥♥ back by the inertia when Bolt Carrrier slides back and hits the rifle's buffer! While in fact, it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥ back by the rear of new bullet loaded into the barrel chamber. FIX IT, PLEASE!!!

Thanks in advance

I'm not sure about it. What is holding the firing pin when bolt carrier hits the back plate?

Thank you so much for responding, NE Team! I truly appreciate it! ^_^

With all due respect, your Free Floating Firing Pin animation is actually not completely wrong but it's only done half right.

This is what's already correct in your animation (no need change it):
"In this game, the Free Floating Firing Pin already correctly moves back by the inertia when the Bolt Carrrier (BC) hits the rifle's back plate."

This is what you need to add/fix:
"But when the Bolt Carrier moves back forward loading a new bullet into the chamber, the Free Floating Firing Pin should slides back forward as well (due to the inertia). As the BC slides back forward and hits the chamber, the Free Floating Firing Pin moves forward as well and then it touches the rear of the new bullet (its primer) but that doesn't have enough pressure to ignite the primer, so that firing pin gets pushed backward again to its initial position (ready to be stricken by the hammer again)

Remember, this Firing Pin floats freely inside the BC. So logically it will move back and forward according to the movement of the BC. When the BC moves backward and hits the back plate, this Firing Pin will move backward as well (to the rearest position inside the BC). When the BC moves forward and loads a new bullet into Chamber, this Firing Pin will move forward as well (hitting the primer of that new bullet without setting it off and getting pushed back as it touches the primer)

I really hope you can take this into account and revise the animation of the Free Floating Firing Pin ( used in SKS, AK, RPK, PKM, RPD, SVD, M14, M1 Garand, etc) ^_^

Many thanks, NE Team

Yes you are right.
....I don't think we will be able to fix it, but we will try to be more accurate in our future models. Also we hope we will usesuch info when we will renew some old models.

Thank you so much for your consideration, NE Team ^_^
Hopefully you can use this info to renew the old models and make the new ones ;)

So far I've been checking the animation of 50% of all your guns, they're looking pretty damn solid, very nice job guys! :D
Only this Free Floating Firing Pin thingy though that kinda bugs me lil bit.
I'm gonna check the other 50% of your guns to see if there's something you need to fix so just stay tuned.
