A way to Reward People that Play the Game Properly
The new update saddens me. Fort hose that don't know it allows people to disable corpses and heart attacks without any repercussions. Now this game will once again be a bunch of people smacking the front-most unit (so much more fun!!!) until everything dies. Due to this update, I think that if you turn off either feature, it should permanatly disable the ability to complete the caretakers goals. Now people have motivation to actually play the game on its intended difficulty. This way it will be something like completeing the pokedex. It's not important (nor easy), but it gives players that play on the higher difficulty something to be proud of by not succumbing to lowering the difficulty. At least find a way to penalize low difficulty (or rewarding higher difficulty) in a way it feels like you did something others cannot.

Vanity rewards for playing with greater challenge sound good to me.
"moooom! they're having fun wrong!"

oh, elitist tears, so delicious
In "Sunless Sea" for example you'll lose your hardcore token, if you enable manuall saving.
It's just a steam achievment, but never the less you lose it.

Honestly I don't care if you reduce the difficulty. But I want something to show that I am playing the game the right way. Otherwise everyone should just turn off this feature and steamroll through the game.

It would be cool if you unlocked skins or different characters w/ the same abilities (Ex instead of occultist you get a witch) for beating it the normal way.
Hand of fate locks certain items and achievements to the level of difficulty. Might be something they could do?
I heartily agree with the OP's general premise here. Even if it is only Achievement-related, there should be some meaningful form of reward for those who choose to play the game according to the dev team's stated vision.
They should either make exclusive achievements for a proper mode (or just lock all of them in easy mode) or reward those who play the way it was indended with a true ending. Like Binding of Isaac, you have to win with The Lost.
"I want to punish people who have Bad Wrong Fun. How dare they try and enjoy a game differently than I do."
Make an achievement for having corpses on. Make an achievement for having heart attacks on. There problem solved. Heck even some sort of vanity thing would be fine to me.

People play the game how they want to play it. I don't have a problem with corpses or heart attacks, other people do. There's no reason to punish or belittle their game experience.

Punish one group of players? No, rather, reward the other one. You have to work for a reward you know.

How is suggesting a vanity reward for playing the game with the default and dev intended settings, "punishing" you?
@quirk it seems that you have to negative here. There is no punishing here. Example: You get an exclusive items for beating the game with the lost in BOI. People that play causually are not punished. But those who excel at the game are rewarded. But, people like you are opposed to this because then you will have to play like its supposed to be played
I don't think anyone has a problem with achievment awards, what people object to is someone claiming everyone else isn't playing a game 'properly' or the 'right way'. That just makes you look like an ass. There is no wrong way to play a game.
Wouldn't the "intended" way of playing the game only be defined once it's out of EA?
