No, but you can be voted as ruler if the current one dies.

That's just what you're doing when you leave your kingdom to start your own without returning your fiefs. You're the rebel now, king or queen of the new faction opposing the former ruler of the kingdom you left.

Kind off. If you leave your kingdom without rescinding your settlements, it will then declare war on you. At that point you can create your new kingdom (assuming you own a town) and start defecting lords from your former faction.

At that point, you can also negotiate peace with your former kingdom and enjoy a period of peace and relative prosperity while you build your army and shore up your kingdom, then you can go back and kick your former king's ass.

i just wish there was a process where you can have lords leave with you instead of leaving and then defecting lords.

I know what you mean.... and I agree.

But.. you KINDA can do that.. As someone said.

When you "leave" and make your own faction... That is A CIVIL WAR. You took some of the lands that USED to be theirs, and now they are yours... and YOU personally were a member of that faction... so yep. Civil war.

You want lords to join.... Well they KINDA can, as well.
1- You can PROMOTE companions to NEW lords. Think of it as giving favored generals/senators/strongmen etc.. THEIR own lands to govern.. like in a civil war.
2- Also, in MANY civil wars IRL, the opposing sides are FLUID. People "change sides" all the time. Google it. So when you LEAVE. and make your own kingdom.. in a month or so (after achieving peace.. Recruit some of your Old Pals from your Old faction. Huzzah They now joined YOUR side. and don't worry your old combat against your Old faction, will kick up again.. sooner or later.

Yes, it's not as clean as "The kingdom splits down the middle. 5 towns here, 6 there.. and 7 lords on this side, 4 on that side... etc" But it can kinda be "role played" as if that happened. Just not as "balanced" as this example, at the start.. It would be more like them 11 towns, you 2. them 15 lords.. you 3.. etc..
