Is it going to be mac compatible at launch or just windows at first? I wouldnt think it would be a huge leap to go from osx to linux, but im not a game developer.

In yesterday's live Q&A Chris Kelley (Tesla Effect's lead programmer) said Linux version's not ready because the company producing the video playback technology hasn't released a Linux version of their product yet. He also said a Linux version won't probably come out before mid-summer

Well, that's a major bummer.

Just for curiosity's sake: does anybody know which video codec and middleware they use?
I guess there's no way to quickly hack together a video player, with, say, ffmpeg as the decoder?

"Technology" lol.

Yeah, you'd think with all the software out there both closed and open they would have picked some better code.

I assume they picked it because of it's modularity with Unity. I'm sure someone could take ffmpeg or other decoders and write a module for Unity, but who knows what kind of coding that would take or additional features this piece of software had, if any.

I'm a bit surprised the movie playback module that comes with Unity wasn't enough for them already, but I guess game engine environments can't always be perfect and have every feature for all software needs.

That's right- RAD games, makers of the popular Bink video player are releasing an update to their Bink tools. Apparently the Linux port is waiting on that new version- currently slated for this summer.

Huh, I thought Bink (and Bink 2) does already support Linux?

If they use Bink 2, I guess that shoots down my suggestion to hack together an alternate player. ffmpeg only support Bink 1, and I'm not aware of any other non-official library that can decode Bink 2.

Ok...so what about doing some tricks in Wine ? Unfortunately I didn't have a clue what could be done here, but shouldt wine only trick the player so he thinks there is windows..? Wouldn't that be the quickest way ? The game actually runs well in Wine... only the videos and missing text in dialogue boxes are missing.. ( ok its not "only" ;-))

Not going to donate until there is a Linux version, and too lazy to run a copy of the Windows version in Wine. I'll wait for native Linux.

Tried to install the GOG archives over Wine 1.7.17( besides Steam Version) but install broke at 11Gig ( 75%) with a senseless dialogue box.. Dont know whats happening there. The terminal output doesn't help me here. So right now... no success in Mint16 / 64bit / Kde

mike69de,

That happens with just about every GOG game that's split up into multiple files. I've gotten each one that gave me that problem working by running the installer in a terminal with:
wine [installer_name_here] /nogui

Let me know how it goes. That's a lot of downloading to go through...

Also, I either forgot or wasn't aware that there's a Linux port in the works. I guess I figured I just backed it 'cause Tex. Joy and many thanks to the devs!

Just found Under a Killing Moon... I picked up a demo years ago, and never found the full game anywhere since... till now. And that's only becuase I have been shopping for Linux games :P. Having a chocolate cake randomy appear in your inventory I found quite amusing when I was a kid.

When this shippps for Linux, I'll get it. Until then, I'll pass.

Any news on the Linux port? Or has it been canceled?

Just asked on this forum thread: http://www.unofficialtexmurphy.com/messageboard/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4940

Would be nice to hear from the devs about the status!
