Release FAQ - Pricing, Upgrade Discount, Steam Key
Distant Worlds: Universe is the entire Distant Worlds series in one package, including the new Universe expansion which greatly improves moddability (make your own governments, research trees, resources, components, events, etc.) a new Ancient Galaxy storyline that also serves as a reference mod and performance and AI improvements.

It will release on May 23rd through our Online Store as well as, for the first time ever, through Steam. As this includes both the new Universe expansion with greatly expanded modding support and the Ancient Galaxy storyline plus all previous releases, it will give new customers and existing customers a unified installation for future support and modding and a great affordable entry point to the series.

The Steam page is now live along with a brand new Trailer Video:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/261470/

Our own product page is here:

http://www.matrixgames.com/products/515/details/Distant.Worlds.-.Universe

The base price of Distant Worlds: Universe will be $59.99 Download / $74.99 Physical. This represents a significant discount over the previous series bundle even before the new expansion. The Physical version is only available through our store and includes an updated and full color printed Distant Worlds series game manual.

For the release, it will be available at an initial release price of $49.99 Download / $64.99 physical with a post-release promotional period as with past Distant Worlds releases that allows early adopters to get the game for a lower price, after which it will revert to the permanent $59.99 / $74.99 price level.

We will also be offering existing customers a discount based on what parts of the series they own. It's a $10 discount per release, so if you own everything that's been released so far (Distant Worlds + Return of the Shakturi + Legends + Shadows) then during the post-release promotion period, your price to upgrade to Universe would be $9.99 Download or $24.99 Physical ($49.99 or $64.99 - $40 discount for four previous releases). There will be a page on our site where you can get the upgrade discount coupon. This upgrade will be available through our store only, we don't have a way of doing this through Steam. All you will need to get the upgrade coupon is the serial number for each release.

We'll be offering Steam keys to customers who upgrade and purchase through our site.

The release will be on May 23rd.

We plan for there to be one more Shadows update, but all future modding/feature/performance improvements will be based on the Universe level.

UPGRADE DISCOUNT INFORMATION
-----

For those who already own one or more games/expansions in the Distant Worlds series, we have created a system for you to upgrade to Universe. You will be able to get a $ 10 discount for every Distant Worlds game/expansion you own. This means that, if you Distant Worlds plus all three expansions, you will be able to generate a $ 40 coupon code for Distant Worlds: Universe. This is then added to the $ 10 release discount we are giving (until May 29th) for a total of $ 50 off the regular price.

In order to generate this coupon, you must register your Distant Worlds content on the Matrix games Members Club[www.matrixgames.com]. After you have done this, click the “My discount coupons” button on the right side. Here you will be able to get your coupon.

!!
Note: Make sure to register ALL your Distant Worlds content before generating the coupon. It can only be done once, so if you do it before you registered all Distant Worlds keys, you will not be able to use the full discount!

This can be done until Augusts 31st!
!!

After you have your discount, just add Universe to your card and enter the coupon code when required.

PLEASE NOTE: This upgrade is only available through our online store. We cannot offer this through Steam, though any purchase through our store also gives you the option to get a free Steam key.

STEAM KEY REDEMPTION
-----

We've had a lot of questions about how the system works so we're trying to put all the info in one place.

If you have bought Distant Worlds from our stores you will have a serial. This serial is all you need to get your Steam key. The way the system works is you register your serial and then we issue you a Steam key.

Depending on your location, Distant Worlds: Universe will be online on Steam later today or tomorrow morning.

The Steam version is exactly the same as the version we sell.

To register your serials & redeem your steam keys please go here[www.slitherine.com]

Once you have registered a serial a button will appear to generate a Steam key. Click the button and the page will update to show your key. This page will track all the Steam keys you have redeemed.

We've tried to make it as universal as possible so it works for everyone no matter where they bought and will work for future releases. We've tested it thoroughly but as always when new software hits the wild there can be issues so if something goes wrong let us know and we'll get to fixing it ASAP.

Thanks again for your support!

Erik - is there any chance that the manual is ready to go and can be shared? I'd love to know more of the mechanical changes :-)

For those who haven't seen it, the full modding guide is available here: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3609080

Erik dont play many games,heh.

How many steam achievements? Could you list them.
wizaerd May 18, 2014 @ 10:31am
I don;t see a pre-order option here on Steam, nor on the product page at the MatrixGames website... When will the pre-order be available?
Rakilonn May 18, 2014 @ 11:06am
Awesome !
At last, this game will have its visibility it deserves.
Black Hammer May 19, 2014 @ 2:31am
So, I'm guessing that since there is no preorder option on either your site or here on Steam that you won't be offering one?
Icemania May 19, 2014 @ 5:12am
Agree with Ashbery, steam achievements for this game would be awesome! Indeed why not ask the community for some ideas? e.g. Defeat the Shakturi on Extreme Difficulty without loosing a single ship etc.

I'm sure they could think of plenty of ideas, it just depends on how easy it is for them to implement such a feature into the game though, or if they even want achievements.
