A sweet art-style, tight controlls and a strange story, you have a great game from the creator SUDA 51, even though he hasnt worked 100% on it, he still wrote the story and did some other things. 9/10

P.S: Game is 5x more fun on hard or very hard.

SUDA51, the incredibly twisted and creative mind behind many other style-dripping action games (like No More Heroes, Shadows of the Damned and, my personal favorite, Lollipop Chainsaw) brings us yet another over-the-top gem; Killer is Dead.

The Pros:
· Just like previous games from SUDA51, we get a uniquely cliché character with a noteworthy weapon at his side. Juliet was the dumb blonde cheerleader who had her Chainsaw, Garcia Hotspur the rough tattooed badass had Johnson, and Mondo Zappa is the smooth talking ladiesman who just gets the job done and has his cybernetically modified left arm; Musselback.
· A simple yet satisfying combat system that gets deeper and more complex as you unlock upgrades and the story progresses.
· Over-the-top ridiculous story with a wide array of interresting characters you'll already knowa thing or two about due to the stereotypical standards.
· Special upgrades are aquired through playing gigolo minigames; you buy gifts at the store with money you earned by playing that can then be given to women who, in exchange for a little "tête-a-tête", will give you an upgrade of some sort. Before you can give her a gift, however, you have to build up enough confidence... by peeking at her t**s or legs. If she catches you staring, she'll slap you right the f**k out and leave you with blue balls. Put on your sunglasses to find out what kind of gifts she'd like, give her those gifts to fill the meter even faster, and get rewarded. It sounds silly and sexistic, and that's exactly what it is. Because SUDA51.
· Everything you love about SUDA51 and it's still not getting old!

The Cons:
· The story sort of throws you right in and doesn't explain itself too much. If you really want to know what's going on exactly (if you can handle that), you'll have to do some research outside of the game.
· The style of the game is sometimes a bit overwhelming. Scenes can get chaotically stylish and colors don't always come over the way they're supposed to.

The Visuals:
· Killer is Dead doesn't give you triple-A quality realism, but it clearly doesn't want to. Style just pours out of every single frame of Killer is Dead, giving it the unique SUDA51 feeling you'll want. SUDA51 once more annihilates the limits of style.

Final Verdict:
· If you're even remotely interrested in Killer is Dead (most likely because of its stylish visuals), don't doubt and pick it up. Killer is Dead gives you ridiculously stylish fun that few other games can live up to. 8,5/10.

I have never played a game from the legendary writer Suda51 before but I can definitely say that this was an interesting and unique experience based on the time I have spent so far.

You play the role as Mondo Zappa and take assignments from an agency tasked with executing dangerous supernatural individuals around the world. Mondo primarily fights with a katana but also has a cybernetic left arm that can be utilized as a number of weapons.

Killer is Dead displays an orgy of style and attitude that I have not seen in any game that I have played. The visuals are of an amazing cell-shaded design. The combat is simple but satisfying. The story is both rediculous and bizarre. For some reason all of this comes together and mostly works.

For the most part the story appeared to be without direction. I executed seemingly random targets and had a small feeling that the writers wanted to get to the point with the story, but it was just not developing. Not until the last few chapters do things finally start coming together and then the story gets very predictable and cliche.

Combat relied mostly with katana attacks and block/dodge combos. Mondo does have a cybernetic left arm that has various combat utility such as ranged attacks and other functions to mix things up a little. Combat was very smooth flowing and relied a lot on use of the blocking and dodging to maintain combos.

The one part of this game that really shined were the boss battles. These were some of the best that I have seen in any game that I have ever played. Bosses had a lot of personality and they were varied and fun to fight. Especially the final boss encounter which is probably one of the better final bosses I have fought in a game. I would have to say the bosses were the highlight of the game and everything else in between was simply filler material to make you wait for the next boss.

The game also had a lot of side activities that could be played to mix things up a little and obtain some needed upgrades to help out with the main story. These had a lot of variety and were mostly good and were fun distractions. However the thing that irked me the most were the gigolo side missions. The gigolo missions were simply a mini-game were Mondo would have to ogle female targets with the goal of them not noticing and scoring a date with them. Playing these missions were very uncomfortable when the goal of the game is to peer at the lady bits without the lady noticing. These missions are optional but some of the coolest upgrades for Mondo's cybernetic arm are gated behind these gigolo missions. The gigolo missions could have been designed so much better, and the idea had a lot of potential, but unfortunately KiD caters to the lowest common denominator with their depiction of women with this feature.

Overall I had some decent fun with this game. Aside from the horrible gigolo missions and the somewhat bland story, the game was quite entertaining. The boss fights were worth the price of admission alone and if you enjoy action games with really weird and stylistic narratives then I would recommend giving this one a try.

Killer is Dead - Nightmare Edition
The game has a wonderful artstyle in my opinion, not only that but also the Characters in the Game are characters you dont easily forget after you played through the story. Personally I wish for a second part or a longer story because I think this game surely is amazing but sadly too short.
The voiceacting is nicely done aswell and I wish to see a second part of this game in near future its like you watched a season from a great series but its only 12 episodes long and you are sad that you cant watch the second season because there is none and you wait patiently for the second season, I just hope there will be one.
The gameplay is well made and really easy to control especially with controller.
This game is a 8/10 for me because its so short but still it was really fun to play through so thank you for that experience

Killer Is Dead is an anime-style unforgiving hack n' slash adventure rpg where you play as Mondo Zappa, a rad man with a katana and symbiotic weapon-arm. You will, from the get-go, be fighting a handful of enemies and venturing around levels in order to confront their bosses, and this game really turns it up on the bosses. The combat is ultra-fluid and very responsive, a mix of Shadow of Mordor and classic hack n' slash. You can sidestep, roll, backstep, and move as fast as you can think to. This is exactly how anime katana combat should feel, allowing you to counterattack and mix in other moves in order to fight groups of enemies. As you build combo, you do more damage and move quicker, so there's incentive to not get hit. When you parry an enemy, you go into a button-mash where you hack them up and build combo by smashin that attack button. The plot is fantastical and unexplainable, and very enjoyable.

Additionally, it's also an anime h-game where you go on dates with cute girls and do a fun minigame where you look at their boobies while they look away. 5/5

Playing as an assassin named Mondo Zappa (a pretty metal name) you take on missions for a bald black man with half a robot face in which you......i really don't know, there's vampires, monsters, a 200ft giant with laser eyes, spiders with human faces on their backs, a demon train, a talking unicorn, aliens, spaceships, someone steals the planet Earth (??), you travel back and forth to a moon you can breath on without a spacesuit and use x-ray glasses to oggle women's boobs and lingerie then they have sex with you in exchange for a stick of gum.

I liked it a lot.

Backlog

We all have it. I started playing this game back in 2015 but only managed to complete 8 missions a year later. Then I returned only this year to finally finish it. It is just one of those games that wasn't captivating enough for me to finish in one go and I always found something else. But I'm glad I came back and put this matter to bed.

Hack 'n' Slash

Yep. We control Mondo and use our sword (and gun arm) to eliminate hundreds of enemies. Mondo works for a special organisation that completes jobs for clients. These are always about killing someone but to get there Mondo has to kill a huge number of enemies called Wires. To be honest I didn't really get if these were machines or monsters but the story revolves around a dark matter that can alter people. In fact, Mondo is also affected as the story progresses (think of the dark side from Star Wars).

Each mission ends in a boss battle and with the resources we collect we can enhance our movement, regeneration and even purchase new abilities. Controls feel a bit clunky - headshots with our gun arm are instakills but performing them with perfect aim on moving enemies can be difficult. Hitting dodge at the right second can give us a small window during which we can quickly slice-up enemies whilst the combo meter goes up pretty fast. These sections are the best in the game.

Graphics + design

The game has a stylised look that makes it as if we were watching an anime. Missions are introduced by cutscenes and we have several of them after completing various sections on a mission. The characters (their dialogues) can be pretty silly - using Japanese voice acting is mandatory for proper immersion. I found the game well optimised but noted the 30 FPS lock. Plus, during one boss battle the audio cuts out only to return after. Mission locations are varied and interesting - but perhaps too interesting (see below section).

Anime silliness

This is where people dislike the game. We have a world map we can use to pick the next episode OR start doing side missions or challenges. We also have the option to date 3 girls. These so-called gigolo missions are an interesting break from the action-packed gameplay and are quite silly, to be honest. Each girl should be approached after we have purchased enough presents in the shop. Dating means looking at the girls (the more private parts, if possible) and by doing so we can fill a gauge. Once this is completed we can give presents to the girls. The glasses we wear hint at the type of gifts each girl likes. Remember not to look at their private areas too long as they can get angry and give us a smack in the face.

What's the point? Getting special rewards from them (I had no idea how to select the new subweapons, though). And, of course, achievements. We have to return and replay the missions as often as possible. Later girls require more expensive gifts - monetary rewards after each episode increase in line with the chosen difficulty.

But the silliness goes on: Mika, our sidekick, is very annoying. During one mission we find ourselves on the dark side of the moon (there is a mansion in the middle of nowhere) and there is one episode where the antagonist is a locomotive. The last boss battle is pretty aggravating - I wanted to forget it just as a did the last boss battle in Metal Gear Revengeance. If you have watched a lot of anime or read a lot of hentai these "jokes" you might accept otherwise it can be a bit too much.

Completion

Completing all episodes will not take long. But doing it on higher difficulties (the title refers to the nightmare difficulty made available for the steam edition) along with the many challenges, plus, ensuring each level is completed with triple A ranking will take a significant amount of time. The game was just too silly for me to do this. But the story can be exciting and finishing off enemies is very satisfactory. We don't have a lot of hack 'n' slash games played from non-isometric perspective so you can pick this one up if you really don't have anything else to play.
