Death paradox?

ToME generally has an unintuitive message order, but until now I thought it was just that. Here, it seems like the events are actually out of sequence.

This is the first time I've encountered damage teleportation, so I'm not sure how it works. The log asserts that I've gained a level, which means I've killed the guardian (or so it seems). It also should mean I gain full life, which would be over 700, but I've apparently died from 284 damage: more than the remaining life I had before "leveling up". Regardless of the order that the messages are reported in, since it's typical that they read somewhat strangely, it seems that contradictory events have occurred.

Furthermore, the online character dump reports that I had -45/779 life[te4.org] and the local character dump reports -5/819[dl.dropboxusercontent.com] (also differing stamina). Both indicate that I'm at level 24.

Think it has to do with the damage teleportation happens instantly, so it happened immediately as a consequence of the same attack that killed the enemy that gave you the exerience needed to level up, so you died at the same time as him, not after.

Shouldn't gaining the level have repleted my life? Or else, I shouldn't have gained the level. The side effects of level gain were apparently delayed, but it doesn't make sense for them to be.
