My fix for stuttering 3x 290x Crossfire
Micro stuttering in game even when achieving frame rates of 60fps due to v-sync being enabled is now fixed for me.
Game runs silky smooth now.

Go to : C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\The Vanishing of Ethan Carter\Engine\Config

Or wherever you keep your steam games.

Open : BaseEngine.ini

Search for : "bSmoothFrameRate=FALSE"

And Change to : "bSmoothFrameRate=TRUE"

Without the quotes. This should fix it for some of you guys. Let me know how you get on and remember to save a copy of your BaseEngine.ini file.

My specs are :

- CPU: Intel Core i7 4790K, Water-cooled and Overclocked to 4.5GHz (I've knocked it back to 4.5 due to wanting more stability)
- Motherboard: Asus Maximus VII Formula Z97X
- RAM: Avexis Blitz 16GB (4x4GB) 2400MHz C10
- Graphics: 3 x Sapphire Tri-X OC AMD Radeon R9 290X 4096MB
- Primary Drive: Samsung 840 Evo Series 1TB SSD
- Secondary Drive: Seagate Barracuda 2TB SATA-III Hard Drive
- Optical Drive: LG 16x Blu-ray writer
- Audio: 7.1 Channel HD Audio with SPDIF I/O
- Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-Bit
- Power Supply: Super Flower Leadex Platinum 1200W

All water cooled.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, this is legit guys. was getting that annoying micro stutter w/ my 770 4GB (i7 3770) no matter how low the settings/resolution were. did this simple tweak and i'm now getting a buttery 60fps in the intro area (1080p, everything maxed, 2x AA). sweet mother of... THANK YOU SO MUCH OP. this should be stickied.
Not working for me. 2600k, 16gb, 4GB 770. Installed on SSD.
i did this and it capped my framerate to 62. rather have the 120 i'm getting and get a little bit of stutter. thanks though. should be perfect for people with 60hz monitors.
this completely fixed my micro stutter, but i'm still getting what feels like a tiny loading stutter/hiccup every once in a while. any way to fix that?

I think that's just a loading thing like you say but I too would love to know if that is fixable.

It took me a while figuring out the micro stutter because I was thinking along the lines of it being a V-Sync issue as the stutter was gone without V-Sync on. So I tried for a few hours to get it forced on from outside the game itself and nothing would touch it. So I looked through every .ini file until I came across something that looked useful and gave it a try. I think I was as surprised as anyone that it actually worked but as pointed out it's only for 60hz users.

IronBlu have you ran fraps or another fps monitor while playing? Because while this fix has helped me im still experiencing that small load or stutter you guys describe but also fraps defo shows the game dipping below 60fps with vsync on or off when the game does stutter...for me anyway.
bumping this to help people out. all we need now is that loading stutter/hiccup fix, devs.
Yes ZOOCH, I've ran FRAPS to confirm the fps and I get a totally steady 60 all the time but these loading issues, while very small are a little annoying. It's more evident when you run as the engine struggles to load in the next section. Maybe this is a downside to the beauty of the game ?
