I must say you really did a good job cause i thought it was on cryengine and UE3 usaully has a distinctive look to it that sets it apart.
The most trivial reason for using UE4 should be VR support ;-). Many thanks to the devs for this beautiful game (i have a look at it with vorpx but i decided to wait till the game have native VR support).

No company producing software can ever guarantee that its product is going to work perfectly on all possible systems and configurations. We are working on many technical improvements for the UE4 version, but we obviously cannot guarantee that we are going to solve everyone's problems with the game. We are going to release a list of improvements that are going to be implemented in the new version of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter soon. Is it a satisfactory answer? :)
