Update 260210 - public beta
Build 260210 for The Talos Principle is now available in beta "publicbeta", which does not require a password.

To install the beta, do this:
- locate the game in the Steam's "Library" panel
- right click and invoke "Properties"
- select the "Betas" tab
- choose "publicbeta"

NOTE: If you want to later change back from publicbeta to default, savegames may be lost! We test for forward upgrades, but not in the other direction.

Here are the changes:

New features:
- Added Turkish localization.

Bug fixes:
- Improvements and optimizations for Vulkan API.
- Fixed crashes when using Xbox One controller.

Thanks for the update, i was doing some benchmarking just when the update became available so i did a quick before and after update Vulkan test, there is small improvement in performance for me tho there is still a long way to competing with DX9/11 performance.

Benchmark results are useless without stating your driver. Vulkan drivers are still new, so results are somewhat useless if you're using old versions.

On Windows, make sure you use:

AMD driver 16.4.1
NVIDIA driver 364.91
Muyu Apr 13, 2016 @ 9:32am
why you dont add turkish localization to road to glenna :(
ObscureAngelPT Apr 13, 2016 @ 9:33am
Hi Croteam.
I did the benchmark and it is far worse comparing to what i had on the first version.

Don't have the log of the old one, only a youtube video where i got 66FPS while on DX11 i got 78FPS.

With the new benchmark i got 40FPS on Vulkan and 78FPS on DX11.
So it is a lot worse, same settings.

My system
AMD Phenom II X4 945
HD 7850 2GB
Windows 10 PRO x64
Drivers: AMD Crimson 16.4.1.

Where can i get those logs like you guys have there?

Changing settings ingame is really buggy atm sound + blackscreen after changing settings

Edited: To show Steam Overlay penalty, Vulkan is on par with OpenGL atm.

Ok, i decided to change my settings to keep the things simple, i had custom settings on the other benchmark, but that could be worse to understand which settings was i using.

So lets start..
The settings are 1080P with CPU, GPU, Cache and memory set to Ultra.
Nothing custom.

DX11:

18:14:03 INF: Gfx API: Direct3D11
18:14:03 INF: Duration: 186.0 seconds (9336 frames)
18:14:03 INF: Average: 50.2 FPS (51.8 w/o extremes)
18:14:03 INF: Extremes: 454.2 max, 25.3 min
18:14:03 INF: Sections: AI=6%, physics=1%, sound=1%, scene=73%, shadows=16%, misc=3%
18:14:03 INF: Highs: 978 in 15.2 seconds (64.2 FPS)
18:14:03 INF: Lows: 1380 in 36.0 seconds (38.3 FPS)
18:14:03 INF: 30-60 FPS: 89%
18:14:03 INF: > 60 FPS: 11%

Vulkan:

18:09:00 INF: Gfx API: Vulkan
18:09:00 INF: Duration: 190.5 seconds (5847 frames)
18:09:00 INF: Average: 30.7 FPS (31.7 w/o extremes)
18:09:00 INF: Extremes: 374.5 max, 3.9 min
18:09:00 INF: Sections: AI=4%, physics=1%, sound=1%, scene=78%, shadows=14%, misc=2%
18:09:00 INF: Highs: 439 in 9.0 seconds (48.8 FPS)
18:09:00 INF: Lows: 619 in 30.3 seconds (20.4 FPS)
18:09:00 INF: < 20 FPS: 3%
18:09:00 INF: 20-30 FPS: 35%
18:09:00 INF: 30-60 FPS: 60%
18:09:00 INF: > 60 FPS: 1%

Much worse.

My PC:
AMD Phenom II X4 945 3.0GHZ @ 3.6GHZ
4x2GB DDR III 1333MHZ
Gigabyte HD 7850 OC 2GB
Windows 10 Pro X64
AMD Crimson 16.4.1

Very nice Update ! Please guys dont look only at the FPS. The mouse lag is finally gone and it feels much smoother.Feels even better that DX 11 in terms of smoothness.
Thanks for this update
Serious Sam Apr 13, 2016 @ 1:00pm
Windows 7 x64
FX 6350
R9 280X
SSD
GPU speed with only FXAA & Supersampling turned off.

Radeon Software Version
16.4.1

Initial loading screen when launching the game takes 2 seconds (the one with the picture of a robot holding the cat). The following "Loading..." screen takes 5 seconds now (compare to 6 seconds in the last update). DirectX 11 does the first loading screen in 1 and the second loading screen in 2 seconds.

Performance is not much better than before, but I've noticed a bit less random stuttering when playing.
The thing which stands out is the lack of bugs. When playing with all previous updates there was a chance game would break, be it lightning getting weird or a black screen in the game world. Not anymore. I've run around for half an hour and there were no glitches.

When playing with the fast button, Vulkan tended to break consistently, be it a skybox turning into a literal box or textures turning into a weird color such as magenta. I've ran around with the fast button, too. No bugs whatsoever.

So thanks Croteam. Vulkan finally seems to be stable.

Here's the benchmark:
DX11 53.3
Vulkan 39.5

Still, it's not perfect. There's heavy lagging and stuttering when turning camera towards a new object.

Disabling Steam Overlay makes a huge difference on Vulkan and puts in on par with OpenGL on Linux or a bit better, looks like steam overlay for vulkan is somewhat bugged.
D2KX Apr 13, 2016 @ 1:15pm
Yeah that warrants some retests without Steam Overlay.
