The Talos Principle

Speaking of sequels
The sequel will be in a world populated by autonomous androids. They will be living in the human world left behind by those who created them. Presumably they will reshape that world to their own thinking and necessities. In this world, will they not wonder about their creators?

Perhaps, in the fullness of time, they will try to resurrect the humans using the knowledge in the archives and survivng DNA. The virus that killed them, with no hosts, has faded into history never to return, or maybe the androids have a cure. The andoids wil attempt this because their systems are decaying; their bodies do not have regenerative powers, and repairs can't keep pace with failures. Also the cats are getting out of hand: Into everything and hair everywhere. Resurrecting humans is their only hope for continued survival: self repairing, self duplicating biological machines.

The sequel game would consist of a series of training exercises for humans to teach them how to survive in a machine created world so that the knowledge contained in that world can be passed to the future. Over time, the androids breakdown and only the humans remain. When they emerge from training they remake the world for themselves and the cycle continues.

I guess there is a game franchise in there somewhere.

Huh, I had a similar idea back then when I first played the game.
Yeah, it's kind of like Humans/Cylons if you are into the Battlestar Gallactica remake.
5 years on Let's necro this thread!

In Talos Principle 2 I'm half expecting some Aliens to show up. (Smart ones though, not those nasty chest-bursters). One Arkady Journal I found implied some thought Aliens would be the beneficiaries of the Archive. But of course things have moved along since then.

The philosophy of Talos Principle pretty much only addresses the Western 'materialist' tradition (there's only Matter) and all events proceed by cause-and-effect.

What's missing so far includes ideas about:
  • Philosophical Idealism (there is no 'Matter' - only thought / information / spirit)
  • A-causality (not all effects have causes)
  • Eastern ideas about universality (individual Self as an illusion)
Yes, all very trippy. But these odd ideas are coming back into mainstream attention after 100 years of successful Quantum Mechanics and it's very productive non-sense.

So I'm thinking maybe some (hive-mind?) Aliens could champion some alternate philosophical paradigm and duke it out with our Tin Men.

Not sure how the game mechanics might work though. I guess they'd have to be in conflict somehow - maybe terra-forming Earth to suit only themselves? Something our guys could strive to stop by actions (puzzle-based?) or reasoned argument (ethical?) Maybe.

Any thoughts?
