better than great engine but mediocore game. looking at you ubisoft
Why don't you guys wait for the actual in-gameplay graphics instead. The Talos Principle looked quite beautiful, this will look better. Also, what NSKuber said.

What are you talking about?
It's been "same" engine since SS2. It's one constantly updated and improved engine. There is no point to rewrite engine from scratch for every game. Now they dropped naming and just have Serious Engine.
And SS4 engine will be far better and have more stuff than BFE one.

It is the same engine since SSTFE, they are always working on it.
Git gud ya noob

Not really, they massively rewrote it for SS2 as far as I know.

That means that something of it was still there. The name has always been Serious Engine.
if you had to make a new engine for every new game you'd run out of time and money very soon

that expensive for man power? or cost/budget/licensing ?
SS3, was a 2011 game...maybe it should be the time to change? Maybe? xD

Cool story. This would be a good excuse if the previous game was not released 7 years ago.

But they do change it. There is really no point in completely rewriting engine from scratch if you can put all new things you want into existing one. Will just be a waste of resources. So they made SS2 engine "future-proof" and now working with it.

That's not true, though. There was Talos.
And again, see my previous post. Rewriting everything from scratch just for the sake of it is simply stupid. If your engine can handle all new things you want to add, upgrading it is logical.

for everything. building homemade tech isn't easy, and building it from scratch for every product is suicide.

You just make a tech fundament and build up on it, gradually improving it along the way.

I mean it's nothing new for the industry.
DICE may be adding new numbers to its engine, yet it's quite palpable that BF1 has the same fundament as BF3, which, like SS3, was released in 2011.
Far Cry's engine hasn't really changed since FC3, and don't get me started on CoD.

SS4 will definitely look better than SS3. Just consider it to be what TSE was to TFE in a way.
