Serious Sam 4

Serious Sam 4

DOOM Eternal looks like Serious Sam 3 in Doom setting

So, DOOM Eternal gameplay demos from PAX East 2020 appeared on Youtube, and I immediately noticed that gameplay looks like Serious Sam 3 with DOOM weapons. It still lacks the chaos and insanity of SS3 levels with like 50 enemies at once on screen all doing their best to get poor Sam and 4-digit enemy count at stat screen, but id is getting there. Doom Marine has finally reached Sam's badassery, congratulations on that.

Now, Croteam, you have to raise the bar a bit more for SS4. You've set the standard, now improve upon it.

I agree. I read somewhere that the game will become even more tactical now that you have friendly "npcs" that you need to avoid to kill, while promoting their helpfulness in killing of the enemies. Just look at the latest SS4 "leak", the player has to avoid taken down friendly "monsters" whiler assisting them to take down enmemy monsters, there might be more layers to SS4's gameplay than any game like this ever seen.
This is also why enemies have RTS-like healthbars above their heads.

Nah, I played Doom (2016) last week and this looks like it, but with more platform movements.

Overall Doom gameplay and levels feel very much like deathmatch. There is a handful strong opponents you need to outmaneuver by performing sick stunts, and keep placing precise shots. Also it has a lot of Z-axis action.

Serious Sam, on the other hand, is more like Space Invaders - a buttload of enemies keep coming from one direction and you need to survive the wave.

I'm getting a bit confused here...

In DOOM, enemies behind player isn't a big deal, whereas in SS games it usually means game over, especially if it's a kleer or a bull.

How so?

If anything, Doom Eternal looks like Shadow Warrior 2 in hell setting.
Pretty much.

Doom Eternal is pretty much Doom MP with an added campaign mode that has parts of MP in it.
Its the 1st Doom game I wont be getting pre-order, and may not even ever get it.
Doom 2016 was ok at 1st, but the horrible map system and same-ole same-ole after about 10 hours kinda ruined the game for me.
I hope SS4 is nothing like either game. I hope its more like SS HD:TFE and SS HD:TSE
Trying to do too much (like SS3 did) made the gameplay way too different (for me) and also gave me a migraine every time I played it (CT, please remove ANYTHING like that hammer, thats the only thing that gave me a migraine, that weird slowdown-ramp-up fast QTE thingy).
Hammer was awful. Hopefully we get a Chainsaw that works like a Chainsaw should (TSE, aka OG Doom, not the crappy fake chainsaw they introduced in doom 16)

Yeah, an SS4 chainsaw that is still in the players hands (when they USE the chainsaw I mean), and not a qte style thing like the hammer was (IE: let the player place the chainsaw where they like on the enemy w/o gameplay stopping even for the second it takes for the qte, and dont stop all other gameplay just to show a pre-rendered qte of the chainsaw doing the same 3 things over and over), would be VERY welcome.

We agree with you
That's because Croteam is stuck in past and doesn't upgrade their engine.
I wonder if Croteam had enough money to license the latest idtech engine built that Eternal is running on, then again they probably don't have enough people to be able to work on it like id does lmao.

I can't help but think this is a joke post. Doom slayer has finally reached sams Badassery? what? uh... Doom slayer surpassed it years ago... a game doesn't need a million enemies at once to make it badass. if anything that makes it boring.
