Yet another miscommunication & E3 disappointment...
I've been a fan of Serious Sam since I was 4 years old, and it may be my most beloved franchise in gaming - so I have no reason to hate unnecessarily. However...

Back in 2016 (I think) Croteam were hyping up a big reveal for that year, which had many fans (myself included) anticipating E3 massively in hopes of a Serious Sam 4 reveal. That, as we all know, turned out to be the first SSVR game. The game isn't bad at all (from what I can tell, I haven't played it), but it was a huge mistake to hype up a mystery reveal knowing full well that it would be assumed to be SS4. They could have atleast said during the build up "It's not Serious Sam 4, but it's something equally exciting that we're ready to reveal". I just think it could have been handled alot better. Anyway, not the end of the world, just a one-off miscommunication... right?

"See you at E3" ... "Please join Croteam and Devolver Digital at E3 2018 for the full game reveal and more!" ... We all know how that went.

Who's in charge of the marketing / PR at Croteam and what are they thinking? Sorry to be cynical, but are they intentionally building FALSE hype for events in hopes it will build up make us more excited for SS4? This is the second time Croteam has hyped up something for E3 and it's not paid off. It's really frustrating being a fan of Serious Sam right now; their communication with the fanbase has been rocky to say the least.

So, E3's officially over? No way they can show gameplay now?

♥♥♥♥, man.

I wholeheartedly agree with everything here.

It's just that Croteam might need to comunicate with fans better at this point. Lying to them never makes others feel better. I feel like we're gonna be discussing this for months.

So, developers wanted to show some new things "behind closed doors" to journalists, but according to this webpage: http://www.insidegames.ch/serious-sam-4-planet-badass-offizielle-ankundigung-wahrend-e3-2018-erfolgt/
"There were no new trailers or materials revealed on the press conference"
Well that's unexpected - I don't know how much can we trust the source, but can it be true that the new screens is all everyone, including journalists, got?

In 2016 was a miscommunication (TBH I wasn't even surprised). This year Croteam just lied to us.

Croteam had never disappointed me for last 17 years... until now.

Me too,but this game is at E3...only for journalists...I heard will have 100.000 enemies at once.I think will be an epic game and they need time for that.It will be worth the wait.

The developers misled us; that's not excusable, regardless of the potential the game has.

Thinking about it for a while, at least they could say something like: "Look guys, the game is in early developement, we might have something for you at E3, but we will mostly be focusing on the journalists, because we think it's not yet ready to show in public."
This way we would still hope we get something, but the thing would be they admitted how the truth is.
But instead we got "see you at E3" and a whole lot of nothing.

BTW, i am curious how about how early development we are talking. In June 2014 they showed two fully working levels (b roll basic and b roll advanced) for The Talos Principle and released the game exactly a half year later. Today all they showed is some enemy renders with a lot of DoF.

The Talos Principle had I think around 18 months worth of development - starting early-mid 2013.
Serious Sam 4 has had almost 3 years of full development time, excluding whatever the development it had before Talos (I'm not sure how far in the development SS4 was before it got halted, although the first official confirmation of the game's development was in early 2013).

I'm still waiting for the Gameplay reveal?? I thought we were going to see it at the Devolver Digital Conference but that was a rediculous pre-recorded video.

I think there is still hope in sense that journalists will be able to share what they got when they legally can do that, after some time... Of course that can happen if source from my previous post wasn't right saying that journalists got nothing more than us.
