How to kill enemies?

Imuen lets me out of the cage, I go to the room she says to and there's only armor, no weapons. I go through the next door and there is a Smoke Mephit in there, and I cannot kill it. It keeps saying I am giving it "non-lethal" damage. I left the hallway and went to the room SW where the lighting object is and 4 Lightning Mephits attacked me. I cannot kill them either. What gives?

There should be weapons on the table. Press TAB to highlight all things you can interact with.

play as a monk.

Without weapons you cannot kill something.Fists can only knock somebody out.

Weapon is on the table. Also take with you Minsk and Jaheira
