Premise: the Windows services/binaries for PSN are incompatible with Proton.
The reason why you can normally play certain slightly older Sony ports that require PSN linking, is that devs actually check for a Linux environment variable (namely, they check for SteamDeck=1), and if that's correctly detected, as well as Proton itself, they just use some different method and/or skip this requirement, making the game successfully playable.
If you start, for example, GoW: Ragnarok from Linux by explicitily exporting SteamDeck=0 to the game, it will instead try to launch Windows's PSN services binaries and will fail with an error message.
There's absolutely no guarantee that the same thing will be done for this game. Steam Deck compatibility/verified is "unknown". If they don't do the same check for this game, you'll end up with an error message and you won't be able to play the game.
Moreover, Sony has never explicitily talked about this environment variable check, at all. If I'm wrong about this one statement, let me know below.
If you're on Linux, I suggest to at least wait for a Steam Deck compatible green mark on the Store page, or wait for the game to release and then regularly check protondb in order to see if the game works on Proton.
will tell it works under Arch Linu
Curious if they prove the lock out theory true.
I tested to login to PSN ( via webpage, not game ) and am met with the following error:
"Can't connect to the server."
So might be on that end.
//edit: Gotta love Sony. Works in Firefox, but not with Brave-Browser.
So yeah, as mentioned earlier, a Single player game not working due to forced online services..
i hate these forced online checks.
I'll also try Ms. Input's suggestion. Lovely work!
