Non-Socialized Medicine
Does anyone know of a mod that makes it so your city makes money from hospitals, rather than loses it? I want a more americanized form of healthcare, as I live in the states, and I think it would be a nice way to make money, rather than lose it.

I'm with ya brother - all the way.

But the devs are Euros and socialism is all they know.

... wouldn't hold my breath waiting for them to implement any type of capitalistic economy in Cities Skylines; well - unless you're into turning blue and unceremoniously collapsing to the floor in an unsightly pile.

A mod, tho. I agree with ya. I think that there are many things in this game that could be changed, since they probably shouldn't apply. One of which being the sports games, as football gets boring to watch.

I know this isn't reallly what you're looking for, but the mod "Export Electricity Revisited" lets you export (ie SELL) excess utilities and services - including healthcare - to outside "cities". It doesn't exactly result in profit vs the amount you pay in upkeep budget-wise, but I do make back about $35k/week exporting excess electricity, water, education, and healthcare. It's something at least

Should lower the health expectancy, mortality rates, and education rates too ;)

As far as Healthcare goes depending on what DLCs you have I barely build hospitals because people never ever get sick and if they do it's because of your water supply or noise pollution which again is easily managed/fixed. Healthcare generally is just Deathcare and buildings like Yoga Gardens, Pools, etc. I might drop one big hospital in the middle of areas that need to level up but you don't need to spam hospitals or clinics. Most of the time they do nothing and are empty.

People aren't really into the management side of this game largely most of the playthroughs I see are people playing with infinite money on almost always. They just want to manage traffic and build pretty cities. As far as using any of the ways to make money you're going to have to abuse parks, universities, and industries once you get the swing of that you can use trains and planes to dump tourists and make money that way if you're clever.

Wouldn't a proper capitalistic, for-profit healthcare system have the profits go to a privately owned corporation, and not the city government?

So you'd essentially have what? Some sort of ploppable building that needs a certain amount of sick people turning up to stay in business?

I'm not sure what you want from the mod, but I doubt that it's possible within City:Skylines, given the limitations of the game...

Indeed, the profits are untaxed and subsidy is given by the local governments for the operations.

So rather than make the city any money, they cost money, make people poorer - and therefore have less to pay in taxes to the city and dont produce good health outcomes- which again becomes a local (and national ) government expense.

On top of all that, the real money winners are the insurance companies which are probably at best national and at worst beneficially owned offshore - so not so much tax revenue there either.

No, you guys don't understand. I am the corporation. The taxes of living and and having a business are not taxes, but a subscription. I do not unlock new tiles, the city gets an update. Healthcare is an added DLC. :steamhappy:

That... Is what I would like out of cities skylines.

If you don't like that reason, you could say that I am corrupt official.

Have not tried it out but can you modify a hospital to accept tickets.
That way you would have some sort of co-pay to use the hospital.

If I remember right someone made some healthcare assets with negative upkeep, which resulted in earning you money. It's been a while though and I can't find the assets now, but you could test it out for yourself and see if it works somewhat like what you're looking for.

While we're at it, give education buildings a negative impact on cim life expectancy.

IIRC (and I may not be) what you describe is a <pick one>, bug, glitch, exploit that was corrected in one of the more recent updates. Wish I could remember more details but I don't use many mods in Cities other than assets and maps. the only gameplay mod I use is the big traffic mod so...

that would be quite cool, when we first place a medical clinic, our residential buildings are at level one usually.

that means the little people would be paying for treatment by doctors and nurses that cannot read or write.

It would be equally cool if schools also charged for the little children to be taught by illiterate teachers.
