So sick and tired of all the problems...
Crashing to a blue screen, sinning around and around for 30 mins... or giving exception errors - this game has truly become unstable. I have 49 assets, I have 4 DLC and I just cant get this game to play every time... I do get the opportunity every now and then but today I had to hard start my pc twice which is not good for my pc but when these things happens - the game will not stop nor will it allow me to restart or even close... What do I do? I am now considering legal action as it is no longer a game I bought...

and whilst on the subject - since when do we need to have a PHd in Computer Science to be able to play a game. All the tech jargon is really not helping. If I knew how it all works I would have designed my own game.
What are your computer's specs?
There is no legal action you can bring or even threaten to bring, so that is a non starter and a pointless waste of time. The problems you are having are due to your system. If you system is having a BSOD event its not the game at fault, because BSOD specifically means a fault has occurred with YOUR windows system. If the game had a fault it would have crashed and not affected windows.

Now if you actually want help in resolving the problem, that can be done. Take a note of the BSOD error code and google it for troubleshooting advice. If you just want a hissy-fit and claim "it's not my PC!", you are SOL.
Try launching the game with -noWorkshop -disableMods and report your results.

Launch options:

To start, not down the BSOD error code.

remove not necessary mod and asset will bring you back to a happy game (certenly need to forgive some save record city), that i had go through nearly days
Good luck with the „legal action“ XD
As mentioned by AoD_lexandro this problems you‘re facing are most likely due to your system. What about a new PC? :)
I'm sorry to hear you're having problems with the game! I'd be happy to try and help figure out what's causing it, so we can get you back to playing the game.

Do you get a Windows "Blue screen of death" or the "game loaded broken so the map is all blue" problem?

And do you have the same issues when you add the launch options -noWorkshop and -disableMods to Steam and test on a new game? This excludes mods as a cause and helps us narrow down the issue, which in turn gets us closer to a solution that will work for you.

How To Set Launch Options
  • Right-click on the game title under the Library in Steam and select Properties.
  • Enter the launch options you wish to apply in the box (be sure to separate each code with a space). Should look like this:
    -noWorkshop -disableMods
  • Close the game's Properties window and launch the game.
Thank you - from the avatar I assume you are from Colosal, so let's follow your advice for now, as this is a very nice game and I have invested a lot of hours and money from buying almost all the DLC's.

Let's get something straight before I follow your instructions: I do not have 64MB RAM. When I bought the game I followed the minimum and recommended System Requirements as specified below (Recommended) - nowhere does it say purchasing one of our DLC’s or adding a mod will destroy the base game. You should maybe consider that.

RECOMMENDED as per store page

Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
OS: Microsoft Windows 7/8 (64-bit)
Processor: Intel Core i5-3470, 3.20GHz or AMD FX-6300, 3.5Ghz
Memory: 6 GB RAM
Graphics: nVIDIA GeForce GTX 660, 2 GB or AMD Radeon HD 7870, 2 GB (Does not support Intel Integrated Graphics Cards)
DirectX: Version 11
Network: Broadband Internet connection
Storage: 4 GB available space

As you can see from my system below I more than fulfil the specs.

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8300H CPU @ 2.30GHz 2.30 GHz
Installed RAM 8.00 GB (7.89 GB usable)
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Nvidia Graphics GTX x1050
Storage: 455GB

So in other words I do not expect to need to “fix” a game when I play it. It needs to work. I can also fully accept that mods could very well be the problem. But from reading previous posts, updating mods and removing mods learning new skills on how to program this or that - removing computer files etc to uninstalling the whole game - wiping it from my computer and reinstalling and still problems persist, you are asking too much. I am no tech expert - I JUST WANT TO PLAY A FUN GAME.

Now generally I would have said let's play vanilla but as this game plays one day perfectly fine and the next it crashes to blue screen (not windows screen of death) there is no consistent error to say this is the cause. As the mods are the same yesterday and today - why would it crash?

BUT - I will launch the game as suggested without mods. And try again. If this is a Windows or spec error I seriously suggest you up your specs in store so people can be aware of how power hungry this game is and the errors they might encounter.

I will monitor the game and let you know.
When modding it's important to understand that this is unsupported content. Mods are created by other players as a hobby, and while we think having the option to mod games adds to the experience, we cannot guarantee that mods won't cause problems. So it is expected that there is some extra troubleshooting needed when you mod a game.

We may need to set up a custom-sized pagefile for you. Unfortunately, the way Windows handles automatic small increases of the pagefile comes with some instability, so having a large pagefile to avoid the frequent changes in its size makes the game much more stable. I recommend setting it to 32000 MB.

Here are a few guides on how to set it up. Make sure to restart the PC to apply the settings, and that you have enough free harddisk space for it.

If you still have problems running the unmodded game after this, please do let me know!
For the time being why not just play the game as is, no mods no assets and enjoy it as if you didn't you could mod it. Play a while and then add mods one at a time ie install TMPE and play the game with just that mod then so on and so on.

I have at some point done a pagefile size increase when someone tried to help me - if it is still the same I don't know.

I can report that I have now played the game without mods and workshop and it is playing perfectly fine. I assume I will launch it with assets first and keep the MODS out for now?

I understand that MODS are potentially the problem - it is just frustrating that you allow for it to happen without what it seems checking that it works with your game. I also know that there are many players trying to clean up the workshop but it is an impossible task. Surely we need to stop it from being a hobby and let people who actually know what they do and who will maintain their mod to submit for your approval. This wild west everything goes attitude is really not helpful for people like me - who 1. want to have fun and 2. want to pay money for good design.

Just some thoughts.

PS: I only use the following MODS - Unlimited soil, unlimited resources, unlimited money, all milestones, 81 tiles, no pollution, and no need for power or water - Are you aware of any of these not working or conflicting? I assume assets are not the problem?
I would re-enable the mods one by one, playing the game every time to see if it works.
