problem with .net install
i dont know why, but the first time i tried to run this game it apparently was trying to install .net when a message saying a newer version was already installed popped up, and after closing it a window saying "your computer will restart in less than 1 minute" showed up..
so the system rebooted and then right after startup another failed install window popped and again forced restart.. i had to use windows startup repair... so i really recommend killing the process before closing the window when a failed .net install happens during the first run

.Net is a pain in the arse. Grab the .Net 4.5 redistributable for x86 and x64.

Next thing to do before launching a new game install is to go into the game folder and delete the
.Net package. Otherwise it will do a repair install if you've only got .Net 4.0 and that can seriously screw your drivers up.

I've had problems with my Nvidia drivers because of this framework being corrupted by by repair installs. Also screws with the Windows Audio sub system. Right now my audio is sweet since I moved the card to the x4 slot and windows reconfigured my audio drivers.

The thing that happens for me when .net does it's stupid ♥♥♥♥ and affects my audio card is the volume and frequency ranges get screwed up. Volume at 19 is loud as ♥♥♥♥ when it should be comfortable and sounding great at 40, as I have it now.

Here's a clean up tool if you ever have problems.

You don't need to repair Win install, you just need to reboot in safe mode and remove the installer from scheduled tasks.
But here's the thing - nobody should need to do that to prevent the game from putting PC's in the endless loop of reboots - it's what developers should nevver allow to happen. Why on earth, is old problematic .NET redist even bundled with the game? 4.5 fixed most problems, it doesn't even try to repair the install in silent mode and just quietly aborts the installation without flagging an install failure. What were you even thinking, developers?

What do I delete to remove the .net package? I tried removing dotNetFx40_Full_setup from the Viscera Cleanup Detail Santa's Rampage\Binaries\InstallData folder, but it still suffers the restarting bug.

Have you tried going into the task manager and shutting down the process from there? That's what fixed it for me.

Is there a file/folder within the game's installation (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Viscera Cleanup Detail Santa's Rampage) that I can delete to keep it from trying in the first place?

Trying to terminate during the Setup leaves a very small window. And these reboots take a while.

Moreover, does that actually allow me to play the game?

I don't know the location of the files or the effect of deleting them on this problem.

All i can suggest is trying to boot into safe mode and experimenting from there.

The FAQ redirected me to a different forum anyway, I'll post in the proper Discussion board and get help from there.
