LAN
I'm hosting a LAN party in a few weeks and the ONLY thing stopping me and the 9 other people from buying this just for the party is the missing answer to this question (and please do add this to your FAQ):

Can we play LAN? What I want to do is just host my own private server that is only accessible via the local network (or at the very least host an internet server with a password) so that up to 7 other players at my LAN party can join for 4v4 (or less, you get the point). Can I do this?
And if not: WHY THE HELL NOT? For game like this, this is MUST.

If we can't do this, that'll be a dealbreaker. Which is a damn shame. I'm hoping we can.

Same story, need LAN

1: Why not?

2: Is there ANY other ways we can do this where we JUST play with our friends and no random people? I do not care if it's a hackt workaround like using Hamachi, just ANY way.

if your having a lan i assume you have internet. why not just connect to the internet and play?

Because I want to play in a closed match only with my friends who are at the party.
Can I do this in any way, avoiding random people from the internet?
Such as hosting a passworded match or something?

I'm really just looking for ANY WAY we can do this, so I'm all ears.

No splitscreen please, I'm talking about actual multiplayer where we can be spread across the living room and have a whole monitor each. Is that really too much to ask?
JeffJ Jul 21, 2015 @ 1:05am
I'm not going to buy the game (or be able to sell the idea to 9 other people for that matter) if we are not even sure weather we'll be able to play it together.
If we have to do it via Hamachi or something like that, that's fine, but if it's not even certain it'll work, it's kind of useless to us.
JeffJ Jul 21, 2015 @ 1:08am
We're spread across the entire living room with each our own computer set up (we're gonna play many other games as well that DO in fact allow us to play proper LAN) so there's no reason we would need to "settle" for being crammed together and tied to one screen like it's 1999.

What's wrong with this MULTIPLAYER game actually offering a LAN functionality or AT LEAST the ability to host an internet match with a password? Seriously...
Nørskov Jul 21, 2015 @ 1:40am
You can't set a password on the match, but you can party up with the players at the LAN and play private matches just with the people in the party.
JeffJ Jul 21, 2015 @ 2:22am
Really? That sounds great. How do we do that? And how do we make sure that no one but the people at the party joins the match?
Also, if the official servers are down or full, or there's just heavy peak (all three of which seems to happen a lot), then won't our private little "LAN" match be affected by it? And worst case, will we even be able to play?
Nørskov Jul 21, 2015 @ 2:35am
I haven't tried it myself yet, as none of my friends own the game. But when you go to play online you get to options, Matchmaking and Private Match. From what I can read, you form a party and then start a Private match with that party. You then get the option to include bots if that's what you want. You also choose the format 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 or 4v4. Note there's a max of 8 players.

Since the Private match also selects an official server you will be affected if the official servers are down or poor. They have been a lot more stable recently, but I did experience some lag when playing last night.
Bear Jul 21, 2015 @ 3:19am
Pretty much what Norskov said, you can create a private match and play each other that way. Just means you will all have to be connected to the internet, but if your at a lan that should be easy as I presume you will be using a switch, just connect that to your router/gateway.
JeffJ Jul 21, 2015 @ 4:05am
This is actually great, thank you very much Nørskov and Bear.

The only remaining factor is that we'll be affected if their servers are affected. I'd much prefer the stability and reliability of a local network based P2P/dedicated kind of server, but at least this makes it possible for us to play only with each other if the servers aren't too big of a mess.

Hey, I want to do a Lan party, too! Thaudal, have you already had your party and can say if all worked good?
john1231 Aug 1, 2015 @ 7:24pm
this game need LAN support badly :/
koily Oct 8, 2015 @ 6:31am
LAN support would be awesome, we have a trip to the alps coming up in january and we usually play some games on the bus, obviously we don't have internet there and even if we did it would be ♥♥♥♥, we usually play like WC3 or Hammerwatch, but Rocket Leage would be the best on these trips (36 hours on a bus) simply because it takes input via controller and doesn't take much skill to get started with. Please reconsider LAN support. If not for this, do it because it's a great way to make your game immortal.
