D&D5E Hoard of the Dragon Queen
I had a group session as a DM. The group was entered the Dragon Hatchery fought all the kobolds near the young guard drakes. They gave the young guard drakes all the unconscious kobolds and fed the bodies to the Young Drakes.....I was like thinking to myself....'So Dark'. lol Now they want to tame the young drakes. is it possible in D&D 5E?

totally...however:
Dragons are intelligent.
You just fed them who was formerly their guards/care-takers
...hmmm...you bust in, just killed my only family I know of..fed them to me, because I just don't care..and now..YOU want to be my family....SUUUURRREEEE....

just get a LITTLE closer ok? or let me learn when you go to sleep? Let me get ACCUSTOMED to EATING all who are around me?

Suuureee...TAME THAT!!

LOL Taming dragons is like taming a person who's smarter than you, larger than you, and can breathe fire/acid/ice, etc.
You might try letting the dragon tame the party

Drakes are only semi-intelligent, but are trainable. However, they were already bonded to the Dragon Cultists. If I remember correctly, there were Dragon eggs that could be raised, but that requires a significant amount of time, as much as raising children.

yeah been doing research on this subject still. Seems like it is just mostly up to the DM. But what I read that those kobolds and cultists didn't treat those young drakes kindly.
