i dont think there is. I hope as they progress they increase it by quite a bit. I can stand a mountain and the view distance is so short it cant even render people across the valley that you should easily be able to see. This is with maxed graphics and gtx 670 OC :(

This one is hard. becuase you dont want to give the people with faster hardware an advantage. maybe after some optimization.

Arguable. People with better hardware gets nice grass and stuff while in game i constantly see people asking how to disable grass making it easier to see people. so it goes both ways.

every user can turn down the graphics and see fairly, however if you choose to have nice grass and better trees that block your view thats your choice. however if you have a low end pc, and you can't draw enemies as far as someone with a good computer, that is a very clear advantage for people with a high end pc. i agree with view distance of charactor as long as its for everyone. and even if you were able to draw grass. trees. rocks further as a option but not people ide agree with that too.

That's the choice people will have to make. Just because I want increased view distance I shouldn't have to be limited by someone else with a lesser machine. Now if the draw distance was a server side variable that could be enforced then I would just simply find servers that don't limit you in this way then it wouldn't be an issue and it would be up to the player joining the server if they want to connect or not.

Another way would be to increase draw distance for everything BUT players, and have it at a fixed value so everyone has it the same. Allowing the increased distance for animals, resources, trees, rocks etc.

I shouldn't have to sacrifice quality just because people want to run the game on a toaster.

currently the view distance can only be altered via the server console. This is only open to server owners and admins. Sadly enough, they probably will NOT release a way to increase render distance due to them wanting equality for all players reguardless of your gaming machines power.

I'm not so much worried about seeing people in the distance, but objects should. Such as static trees and maybe even player structures. A common method for many games is the farther an object is the more the LOD decreases of the object. That same should be done for Rust. Sure, clip off viewing distance of the actual players (not like everyone has the bandwidth to track 100 players anyway) but leave the objects.

And/Or have a different kind of terrain render when reaching a certain altitude. Or another method relating to LOD is at a certain distance the object becomes a 2D sprite rather than an 3D object. SecondLife uses that technique and it works rather well.

I created a 4 story tall building on the mountain top, it should be somewhat visible everywhere with a clear line of sight. I've seen people create sky scrapers that touch the sky! So again, it's one thing to draw distance players, but massive objects like these should not pop out of existence.

YOu should be limited because it's a matter of fairness, not personal preference. THat's like saying i shouldn't have to play w/o cheats just because you dont like them. What the devs need to do is set a minimum distance for everyone, but limit that distance to current hardware. So people with slower machines will have to crank the graphics down in order to play or get new hardware.

If I want to spend money to get a better pc to be able to have a better experience in a game, I shouldnt be hindered because some people cant get a high powered machine. This is starting to bring console logic to pc gaming which isnt fair. This is why I pc game and not console.
Do what ArmA does, make it client side and let them decide where their draw distance should be.

Maybe they should just require everyone to have a a high end card... What's the point of buying high end components if you are going to get capped at what people are running on Dells?

I want a better draw distance because my hardware is better is in one word stupid. Can you please tell me more about balance in video games?Oh and just incase you feel the need to bust the poor/get better job remark i can assure you my hardware is more than enough to run this game.

You clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

Put a little effort in and keep up with the people that are ahead in the race. We shouldnt have to wait up for someone who cant be bothered to do better just so everyones a winner. Morality vs Principle. Principle wins. If you cant keep up with us then dont race to begin with.

Regardless if you could see for 1 mile, your gun can barely shoot a tenth of that range. This isn't arma where you can see 1800 meters, and possibly hit someone at +1000m
