Starmap Cloaking:

Players have been having problems with getting overwhelmed with attack bounties on their mothership. This is usually a result of making some enemies early on and that tends to snowball, so we wanted to give you all a way to get out of a sticky spot, but without undermining the consequences for making enemies. To solve this, Carl has invented something new, the Starmap Cloak.

Starmap Cloaking automatically unlocks at level 6. Normally you will get a perk at this level, but we also made it so that old saves with a level six or higher will also be able to cloak.

When you cloak, anyone chasing you will lose targeting on you and will re-evaluate their goals and move on to some other target.

Cloaking costs quite a bit of extra rez to use, about twice the cost of normal flight (on top of your current flight mode.)

You can stay cloaked as long as you want if you have enough rez to maintain the cloak.

If you start combat or any action that takes time on the starmap, like Collecting goons at a resource node, or repairing, or joining a fight, you will become visible.

Once your cloak is down, it takes time to regenerate (currently 60 starmap seconds) and you will not be able to recloak while the field is regenerating, so use cloak wisely.

Cheat Mode:

Cheat Engine has been pretty popular for people to modify their game, and we wanted to make that a little easier and less error prone than twiddling random memory :) So we have added a cheat menu to the game just like we had in SPAZ 1.

If you use cheats, your achievements will be disabled for that game moving forward, but if you load any save game without cheats active, then achievements will be back online.

Current Cheats:
Level Up
Add 100 Goons
Add 1000 Rez
Add 10000 Scrap

Cheats can be used over and over so if you hammer the buttons, you will get pretty rich pretty fast.

The Cheat button is Alt-F7 as in SPAZ 1 for old time's sake :)

You guys just Had to Sneak in this update all of the sudden. :P

One thing regarding cheating.
Is there going to be a possibility to ADD an extra core, regardless of actual level.
Maybe even show this on the ship builder as:
Where 14 is the used cores, 10 is the normally unlocked cores and (+5) shows how many cores got cheated in.
(thus allowing one more core to be added to this example ship)

This will likely come, but closer to when we add the extended perk tree to sandbox mode. It will be a good pre-test for that system.

Hyped :)

The update sounds awesome, but the roadmap sounds even better.

I swear this game is going to end up my favorite game of all time. It's already in the top three.

There were, think that there was even tip for secrets or something while loading that was leading to them... but didn't play long so not being sure.

Neither was I. Pretty sure I have 300 hours of that game too.

Anyway, cloaking sounds great. Can the AI use it? I think it should.

Not only was there a cheat option.
The clever savegame editing players knew how to undo the cheat mark it gave.

Oh. Did I posted that publicly?

You sure did!

I'd rather development be put into making the game better and better rather than combating cheating achievements. But I say that as someone who doesn't give a stale damn about achievements.

I see that good progress is being made. Still nothing I fancy, but still pleased to see the game evolving. Keep up the good work!

Can you make that people without any rez can cloak to get out of enemy territory? You could have a different penalty setting such as reduce speed to 10%. This would be a deterrent since everyone else would be moving so fast and doing a lot of stuff, player would fall behind.

THe no-rez mode could be a failsafe, not useable until the player is actually out of rez.

When out of Rez, Goons will die anyway, flying "on Goons" is funny but so slow, AI's can't fly forever without Rez or Goons bcs of having infinite money tho... so check our old big list Blorf and fix it hehe.

Imo using this cloak feature in SPAZ 2 should automatically put you in "cheat" mode.

It's a great mod addition, but not on to the game proper. New players now have no early game reason at all to concern themselves with bullying captains, making friends, doing arenas/killing bandits in crowded zones for rep... ever having a problem? Turn on the cloak! Doesn't it also allow experienced players to be jerks & invade enemy territory with no consequences? And fighting your way thru zombie-infected zones is a thing of the past...

tl;dr - starmap CLOAKING is in danger of making a really fun game too easy

Oh..., didn't play so didn't notice it, but this, up here is... true, so true, but we can't just tell devs that's cheaty and to remove it like with double core..., we should find a way to keep it and also to nerf it or work put into it will be wasted... let's burn 10x Rez yay~, good players anyway won't have problems with Rez/Goons so they will still have a chance to use cloak in real danger or need while newbies will need to use diplomatic or force tactics rather than invisible escape for no price.

Keep the thoughts coming about the cloak. We are open to changes and tuning with it for sure. It is a saftey valve for players who get overwhelmed, but we also don't want to lose all threat for making enemies. It may be that the 60 second recharge time is too low, or the burn rate needs to be higher etc...

One important thing to keep in mind here is most of you are also now experts in the game, you need to put yourself in the shoes of a new player playing the story for the first time. Perhaps we make cloaking an option you can turn off for sandbox. Anyhow, discussion is good.

Perhaps cloak also only lasts for a limited time instead of for as long as you can fuel it.. Lots of options.
