Great performance but terrible hitching, any ideas?
I started playing this again recently with a friend and am having an issue I don't recall having when we last played months ago. I get good framerates, but every ~5-10 seconds I have a horrific 500-1000ms complete hitch. It makes playing really difficult, combat/ranged especially as it just hitches a ton and makes timing very difficult.

I have a good gaming pc and play tons of modern games without issues so I'm assuming it's just some jank with the game (Being WIP and all), but in case anyone has any ideas I thought I'd ask and post specs. I've updated my drivers, verified the game install and even tried playing on absolute lowest settings. No matter what I get the hitching and it's really frustrating.

Intel 4790k OC 4.0
GeForce 980Ti
32gb DDR3 RAM
10krpm HDD
Play at 1440p

Then watch out because a lot of people with Win10 are having problems after the Creator Fall update... you can find more info over here:

Sure glad I'm still on Windows 7 Pro.

Are those "hitchings" only in MP based games? such as SurvivalMP opened to you and your friend? Have you made sure both have disabled UNET in the launcher? This alone can cause for nasty lag spikes and/or increasing ping issues.

Other than that, Jost is right - Win10 has issues currently. I noticed it with my gf's laptop, which is on Win10 right now and it does create some gaming issues - especially in 7 Days.

I don't think its because of the Creators update. I've run SFC, uninstalled all the extra garbage and disabled a bunch of the random crap that comes with it. I don't have perf issues like this in any other games whatsoever.

I also have the hitching in single player. Exact same issue.

Yeah, then it's probably the same old stuttering problem lots of people have right now (A16).
Apparently on some configurations, no matter how pawerful, people get stuttering.

There are ways to tone it down (like disk defrag and such) but no real way to remove it.
I hope it gets better with A17 since they're migrating the game to Unity 2017.

Run it at 1080P bet you that hitching is gone. Optimizations come later on in the development....

If this has been widely reported then it sounds like I could certainly fall into this bucket and may just have to wait. Thanks for the info!

I know they come later in dev, I even say that in OP, just wondering if it happened to be a solvable issue. I tried 1080p and have the exact same issues. I even tried 720p and it was no better. Again, my framerate is great all the time, even on max settings 1440p, but that doesnt stop the hitching from rolling by.

Seems like it may just be an issue I gotta wait to get fixed.

Was running win 10 & getting a lot of issues with ARK & this game, switched back to win7 & havent had any issues with either game so win10 is defo at fault......

I can tell you something, after spending a whole afternoon checking for any possible fix related to performance, reading tweak guides, every forum post from steam and official forums, and trying like 15 different things....

what removed most of the stuttering / hitchings was powring off the blade traps attached to solar panels. It may or may not be your case, but I was going mad cause I had awesome fps outside base, while horrible stutter inside, and it fixed it.

Oh, I emailed myself all those "fixes" I found, so after some formatting, I thought I could paste it here, maybe it helps somebody!

"- Enable GLCore Renderer in the game launcher
- Disable Voice Chat in the sounds options
- Disable EAC (if only play SP)
- Disable SSAO in the graphic settings
-run 7 days to die_eac.exe
-reinstall / verify
-turn vsync off
-Find the 7DTD exe (both of them) then Right Click -> Properties > Compatibility, check the box "Disable fullscreen optimizations" apply and play.
-Try turning on "Exclusive fullscreen" mode in 7days launchmen
-disble nvidia profile
-change to quality
-uma texture not high, medium or low
-If you use full size textures, you have to go into video settings, and press the OK button. Don't change anything, just apply current settings. It's been like this for a very long time, not sure when/if they are going to fix it. That one step along can increase fps significantly.
-turn UNET off
-Use the game launcher, go to tools, and clean up your game data before playing the experimental.
-windows defender off
-try reducing your Pre-rendered frames, which will allot less work to the CPU
-disable exclusive fullscreen in launcher (instead of enabling)
-Turn off shadows as well.
-Use the server tool and run the server on the same rig as as the client. for whatever reason it runs better. lees stuttering.
-disable nvidia telemetry..."

Nice resume MeGa!
I'll link it for future replies so it's easier to help people. :-]

Sure, I mean, I didn't test each one of those fixes, one by one, and can tell how good they work. I just applied most of em, outdoor performance got even better if possible, but didn't remove hitcking in my base till we disconnected solar panels from blade traps XD.

My mate with even a better rig than mine had the same result, so I think it's a conclusion it works in some cases.

The other fixes have worked for some others as well, in the threads or guides I found, so if anybody wants to try "all they can", that list can become handy hehe

None of them did anything (I had already tried most), except this one which seems to have gotten rid of maybe ~60% of the hitches. So, while they still happen regularly they happen far less now and the game is actually at least reasonably playable. I'll keep tuning, but thanks for the list.

Still excited for further optimizations as development continues. :)

May have spoken too soon. I was launching and relaunching the game a bunch to test things and got several minutes of good results before posting this. I've sinced opened the game again and played for a longer period (~20m) and the hitching still seems rather prevelant. Nothing changed between then and now, I wasn't even using my PC in the time so I seriously doubt it's something outside of the game. Bah. Guess I'll just deal with it or not play much until more optimizations come along.
