How is Game
I love Building crafting survival games like Conan, Boundless ( although not really survival) Ark amongst plenty of others. I have a decent amount of hours in Ark Minecraft etc. How is 7DTD and can it be played solo? Is the progression slow like Wurm online lol OMG i dread when games are that slow lol. And most important can the game be played solo or on a server that you all can recommend?

Personally I love the game. It's not super slow progression, it's a decent pace. And it can absolutely be played solo. If you're interested in MP there's server and meeting room subforums on the right side when looking at the general discussions -->
I play ark and 7dtd. Similar Hours. 7dtd is better. The progression can be set to what you want. Heck you can even edit the xml game files, or just find mods (albeit not on workshop). The huge difference is voxel / Random generated maps. Base building is not stupid like in Ark (S+ kind of fixes). Vehicles vs Dinos. Ark gave you much better sense of
loss. 7dtd you can play through many times whereas ARK is like playing the same game for much longer. Ark progression is kind of broken (I get dino after I no longer need it). 7dtd progression is more random. There are traders that can circumvent the can't find this, but as a result can break progression really quickly. So you can choose how to use the traders. Single player is simple and people can join you SP game at any point. Doesn't break it. Ark SP is beyond stupidly broken, and you can't have someone join later. 7DTD is dirt simple to join a server click. Hosting you own is a click. ARK server is a degree in Computer Science.

In Ark you don't defend your base except in PVP. In 7dtd you will defend your base and frankly the best part of the game in my opinion. Standard vanilla becomes easy over time, but throw a few mods and the 7Day Hordes can tear your base apart. So more of a challenge in my mind. ARK kills you going out of your base, usually by surprise. 7dtd tends to kill you because of a bad decision and over confident, usually at a POI that is made to be difficult and you rush in.

Ark tends to be more friendly to performance, while 7dtd is weird at times. Ark used to give you updates every week, 7DTD every year or so. Ark mostly added dinos/map, where 7dtd will waffle in game mechanics, making feel like a new game. Some like that, most begin to dislike that over time.

Youtube seems to favor 7dtd in my opinion. For those that make videos on both, 7DTD feels to be always better. ARK is way more of a grind is my thought, and that is boring to watch.

for new players. Ark is scary to go out at night, but once you have a dino, you do. 7DTD some people still never go out at night. The threat in ARK is near zero at a point, where 7dtd the threat grows in each day. So if you like a challenge, 7dtd will more likely bring it. Caves in ark might be more like 7dtd normal play.

Wildcard will be around as they learn to make more money on the game, console alive and well. 7dtd hasn't figured out how to make money besides the initial launch. Console struggled and Pimps are trying to fix that. Ark2 might struggle as much as say Alpha 21. Wildcard will be 10x the size pimps because they run a business. That doesn't necessarily tell me who will make better games in 5 years, but 7dtd is starting to look like a one hit wonder. Jury still out on WC.

Pretty good breakdown. Only exception I have to is what you think of the business side. Idk about ark, I'm assuming Wildcard is Their company name. Not familiar with how that company started or when, but TFP started as a 2 man team and has slowly grown. Iirc they now have around 60 ppl and are currently in the process of a second game. Last I read it was still in the planning and concept phase. I doubt TFP will be a one hit wonder, but even if that has no bearing on how someone likes 7dtd.
9 years and 10,000 plus hours solo in 7DTD, only vanilla, no mods. One other game kinda seriously in between, EGS for my sci/fi space itch. A few trial runs on other stuff, under 100 hours, always come back here. Settings, to me are awesome. watch a couple videos if you want, I like jumping right in "nekkid and afraid". You will never experience that experience again. I have restarted a thousand new games though, so close, and I never lose that new car smell by starting a new game. :-) That`s my story and I`m sticking to it. Cheers

ps in your solo game you can set it to let another person come play with you, or, you can play MP, many, many do. But Many, many solo payers in here.
@OP: I don't understand why you're asking... you already own the game.

Giving benefit of the doubt, they bought the game on a sale recently and now that they've got some free time to play coming up, they're seeking information about the game before loading it up- Just in case it's refund worthy.

The OP's dealbreakers then become
1: If the game is a big grind that takes way too long- This is something the OP won't be able to find out in the 2hr refund window.
2: They prefer solo, but if the game is only playable in MP they're still willing to try it: then finding a good server is a time consuming task- They might not even find one that fits their needs before the 2hr refund window; So they seek a good server by recommendation so they can try it.

I have a few games I bought but haven't played yet. For two I logged in and immediately died then immediately uninstalled the game. Lol. I'd have to uninstall 7dtd to install another (limited space/slow down speed/potatoe rig) and that process takes a week of mental health prep & an anger management class. :/

Fair. WC is taking ark to ark2. They had DLCs. It isn't clear if Pimps are working on something that compliments 7dtd or not. That is why the business affects the game. Is it a genre/series, or a one off game that "dies" once the developer moves on. Right now I get the impression Pimps moved on, and have a few final things they are finishing but they are winding down. It feels like 7dtd is back down to 2 people. Just speaking form a software developer viewpoint and comparing to what the mod community is doing. I for one would love to pay the pimps for more expansion of 7dtd but they appear like not wanting to monetize what they are doing. They could surprise. If the other 58 people are working on console update to A21 that feels nice for those that bought and would grow sales, but ouch that is an expensive opportunity cost.

Because never really played and I know tons of things have changes so I was wondering if I should reinstall and start playing it. I don't have enough hours in this game to really know what it is like.

I think TFPs are wrapping up 7D2D based on job listings to work on an announced Unreal engine game and announcement of the "Road to Gold" list, but they are at least working to complete the game to the vision they have.

7 Days to Die 2 was mentioned by Roland in some thread recently, but he has a sense of humor that sometimes doesn't translate well through text, so idk if he was joking or not. At one point it was said there would be no part 2 any time soon, so my confusion still stands.

Damn you Roland and your teasing ways....

I see... well, IMO it's always better to just load it and fire it up. No amount of words from others can make you understand the game like playing it yourself.

According to TFP they are still fully working on 7D2D. Madmole (as designer) is largely finished with it though. But it seems he is doing a lot of balance testing right now (I can only guess that the spear change might have been his idea/request). Some of the work they are doing seems to be for a later console release as well, especially the new network guy probably has his hands full with this.

TFP the company has hired a second team doing a game on the unreal engine and they say that has no influence on the 7D2D development. Someone said that A19 took one and a half years as well and that was before the unreal game and console work, so this is quite possible.

Also, 7D2D 2 has been mentioned already a few times in official posts so I think that is a very śure but long-term goal for them. There were hints that they might make a game with the same engine but different scenario first.
