Only two things have gotten notably 'easier' over the last number of alphas, imo;
1: Food and water are a bit easier, in general, to acquire and maintain.
And
2: The temperature system rework, which arguably made it easier to deal with since it can no longer kill you and is easier to understand/manage.
What has changed significantly though, is your skill at the game. Your knowledge of the game. Your understanding of how to deal with the various situations you end up in.
There is a mod that increases the zombie spawn. Or you could try overhaul mods like Undead Legacy, Ravenhearst, War3zuk. All significantly harder than vanilla.
And there are a number of difficulty settings, like enemy speed and enemy block damage to tweak when you get too comfortable.
In the end though, I agree the game has lost most combat challenge for me personally, but I recognize that's because I have a lot of hours into the game. What I do is try different builds and methods of approaching horde night while keeping the difficulty settings high.
Also bandits - enemies with smarter AI and.....guns.
not sure you remember wellness but dp is so much less bad also 6 levels of protection and a tutorial plus making the crafting WAY simpler no longer needing sticks planks and logs as seperate things all meat being the same caves ins are harder to cause and less fatal feral wights cant spawn on you day 1 you pretty much never spawn in and oh look 3 dogs any more the animals are so much more plentifall and a few turrets can hold out against gs 150+ hordes without any issue whatsoever cant speak of much leter than about 200 cus i get bored and start again.
that sounds good
It looks like you started with A18. What exactly do you find less challenging now vs then?
So, If you spawn in, And literally follow the tutorial like a new player would, (That is to say, not running around like a pro and actually just punch the nearby grass and pick up the nearby wood/stone)you almost certainly won't even see a hostile enemy until you've finished the tutorial and started on your way to the trader you're pointed to; Let alone get jumped by one.
I logged in this morning to play for little bit wondering if they made the single player start better yet. Collected grass and crafted a bedroll. Then it said place the bedroll, looked to my right and there was a trailer so walked for 2 seconds, opened the door to place the bedroll and dog comes up from behind and attacks. I was playing as if a new player in a new single player game.
Also..Most new players, the ones I've seen at least, drop the bedroll at their feet and move on into the rest of the tutorial. It's fairly rare (again, in my experience) for them to do something besides that.
Most new players dont even really know WHY they're crafting a bedroll, or what it does; And so do not think 'i should put this in a safe place since I'll spawn on it, oh look, a building ill go put it there'.
I never left like a 5 meter radius of my spawn. Told to get grass fibers and started punching grass, maybe a new player would not know to do that, then crafted the bedroll while rotating to look around, it then said to place the bedroll and putting it in a structure is not far fetched veteran player level thinking imo. Take note of it or deny it; up to you guys.
