For players curious about full HAZMAT suit and effects of radiation
Did a small test today on effects of radiation.
I wore a full 5 piece 'purple' average 575 quality HAZMAT suit with 600 gasmask, 600 leather duster....this gave me 100% radiation resistance as read on my character ragdoll.

I motorbiked it to edge of map full RAD ZONE, and placed a sleeping bag just in case.
I walked in expecting insta-death.
The damage ticked away at about 18 HP per 5 second click on my maxed out 250 health pool.

I believe you could last approximately a minute, longer with health boxes if you had 250 health pool.

TLDR: The HAZMAT suit stats say total 100% protection so this is not true.......but...it does allow you to last a short time in the rad zone with no insta death. Also the suit took zero 'exposure' damage to its integrity during the test. So no expensive repairs.

Hope that helps someone a bit. Best wishes and respect.

That's because they don't have it implemented yet. Rad protection is not set up properly because there is no point as they haven't added radiated zones, or anything in the full rad zone yet that would need it.

Its there purely for cosmetic reasons and as a place holder right now.

Cool thanks for reply.

I suppose my intent was...i didn't want players collecting/ buying expensive hazmat suit parts expecting miracles when i could save them the bother. Thanks for heads up though.

info like this should be kept under ones hat, if the trader finds out they are useless he may stop buying them ;)

Thanx for the tests. I was actually expecting it to not have any effect at all on the "border" rad zone. Pleasently surprised.

How is the trader going to find out? Just an NPC, not in the AI that I know of..

Fire resistance doesn't work either, its actually quite annoying , especially when there IS actual fire effects in game.

Any word if they will implement something worth exploring in the radiation zone?

if you watch Madmole's latest Q&A, he confirms the edge of map rad zone will always be death trap, they put that in instead of invisible wall, they chose this route to be more in theme.

the hazmat suit will do what its intended once they bring in rad poi's into the game, but will never work on outer boundry.

Having actual content in the radiated zone would add a very interesting scavenging dynamic. They could even center it around a damaged nuclear power plant- being the source of all the radiation.

Like all the most bizarre zombified creatures and rarest of loot dwell within. Would jack-up the prices of the Hazmat gear for sure.

Now that is something the devs should add in.. It would giving something extra to do

The nuclear plant could be a dungeon so to speak, kind of like what you said, have the best of the best loot there along with the stronger / mutated zombies. If any blocks where damaged or destroyed they would respawn / repair for the next time you enter it.

It should act like an instance in where once you clear it out, it stays empty for 2-3 days gving you enough time to loot just in case your base is a full days walk/ run from it allowing you enough time to run back n forth a couple or times if needed or something,

insted of the parachute supply drop, you could have this insted....

or both, options are good in games :)

It's already planned that they will have irradiated pockets you will need the hazmat suit to get into that will contain choice loot. That much was covered in this very thread.
