+1 YES PLEASE!
It's been 6 months since I opened this thread, and I wanted to ask you again if you could consider my request for a sharpening filter for SteamVR?.
I've been using a CAS sharpness filter for over 4 months now which costs next to no GPU resources and makes the image in VR extremely improved and sharper, and it works with almost any Steam VR-Title I have tested.
We VR users are generally somewhat disadvantaged by the blurriness in VR compared to 4k/8k monitors where everything is sharp. The software technology to also experience VR in sharp is there and works with any HMD.
I would really like to ask you to take a closer look at the topic and request for the integration of a sharpness filter and you will find that a feature of this kind brings a huge enrichment for all those who use VR more and more, because it offers the pure immersion to experience games and applications that were just flat before.
I currently use the VRToolkit CAS sharpness filter from Retrolux (Github at: https://github.com/retroluxfilm/reshade-vrtoolkit/releases ). This works with almost every Steam VR title and makes these titles appear sharp and crisp down to the smallest detail in some cases, without putting much strain on GPU resources.
It would be a huge enhancement if a CAS sharpness filter could be integrated into SteamVR so that GPU resources could be used for gameplay in ultra settings rather than SS.
If you have ever played a title in VR and then play the same title with a sharpness filter (e.g. VRToolkit) then you will have to notice and experience for yourself how much the sharpness matters in a title like DR2, ETS2, SkyrimVR or Project Wingman and any other game, even Half-Life: Alyx looks a bit better than it already is.
I unfortunately have a bit of a feeling that this thread is being neglected, or am I really the only VR user who finds that just about every VR title somehow has a blur filter over it that you have to manually remove?
So this thread would primarily be for the SteamVR developers to try out a sharpening filter themselves, only to find out (as I did once), WOW, really now, before the sharpening filter the game already looked a lot, lot blurrier. And then you just want to play that way.
Yes, for me and probably many other VR users it would be a great improvement to SteamVR.
And very nice to see the creator of the VRToolkit plugin here and a big thank you for the time and effort you put into creating VRToolkit.
Now I've (horribly?) already reached the point where I don't play flat games anymore and if it's a flat game anyway, then only in vorpX. And one WOW after another, Batman, Bioshock, Dishonored, Ori, Trine and most other titles are in vorpX just incredible. Just like DR2, AC, ACC, PCars2, Moss and any other native VR games in conjunction with VRToolkit.
I can't even imagine playing a VR game without VRToolkit anymore because it makes such an extremely big difference in playing VR games.
From me you get an extremely big +1000 thank you for making it possible with your plugin that all these immersive VR games that exist to date look really, really crisp in my Valve Index.
For me vorpX is as indispensable as VRToolkit! I can only repeat myself once again:
T H A N K Y O U !
