SOLUTION for games not starting / launching and no error

I have spent many many hours digging for a solution and I finally found one that worked.

For several weeks I have had some games just not start, never worked, figured my system must be the problem - oh well lots of games to play that work.

Today I installed Pavlov VR and it wouldn't load, I was determined to find a fix.

Digging into the event log a common thread seemed to be the access violation error 0000005. There are a LOT of possible causes and potential fixes.

Long story short, the solution was on reddit in a valorant thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/VALORANT/comments/gailp9/no_error_game_not_launching/

"Basically type environment variables into start, and open "Edit the system environment variables" > click on "Environemnt Variables" on the bottom right > Click on "New..." at the bottom > can create an environment variable called "OPENSSL_ia32cap" with the value ":~0x20000000d". (Both without the quote marks). Then ok."

Pavlov VR finally loaded for me for the first time ever - joy! Haven't tried creed again yet but another game that wasn't working now does work.

Hope this will help other folks. I was about to reinstall windows.

Posting here since it is not specific to any one game, but feel free to spread this fix around.

This really did solve the Survios VR games not starting (Creed, Sprint Vector, Raw Data, ...) and also Oculus Home that never stopped loading, but the games and Oculus Home are now extremely lagging, making it unusable.
From my research I found people think the issue is associated with new CPUs (Intel 11th gen) and/or PCI 4.0, which in my case applies.

This also fixed ECHO crashing for me and it works fine now.

i did the fix but ECHO is still crashing for me. :( I can get past the loading screen now and start the game but down it goes after only a few seconds. :( 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-11700F and RTX 3060 12gb - so yeah, must be something to do with the 11th gen as you say. This has happened for a number of games now. :(

I hope you get it working, I like this little gem, and its ALWAYS worked for me, but lately Ive had numerous games causing my PC to shut down, and Echo here does it every time when the lander craft drops you off. So clearly Ive got something going with my system.

The 11th gen makes sense.. I had Echo loaded on a 7yr old Gaming Laptop (Not sure the specs) earlier this year, and it seemed to work fine.. but then because of the poor physical state the laptop is in, I got a new desktop.. Load up ECHO, and bam! the crashes start happening. Not sure if there is a fix to "downgrade" the processor artificially, but i'd be willing to give it a try.

Somewhat late to the party, but the following link fixed the constant crashes or the game not even starting with ECHO, Effie and Shape of the World for me:

It pretty much goes the same way as described by the thread starter lwf, only you have to insert a slightly different value in the "Variable value" field:
~0x20000000

I tried this and it didn't workout Pavlov still wouldn't launch. Is the variable value universal in some way or should I try a different value?
