I am looking for an issue how to update the controllers. I’ve had the headset for a couple of years. While looking, I came across discussion about the steam game controller (the one like PlayStation and Xbox) they mention an issue, trying to update the firmware for that. The solution was to go back to an older version of the steam installation, they mentioned May 2023. There is some issues between how the steam VR portion integrates with the overall steam environment. And it seems somethings get left behind when the universe gets updated and the steam VR part doesn’t. I don’t know if this is going to help at all but look for steam controller update problem or can’t update steam controller.
I know it’s cold comfort, but once you get up and running, you were going to have fun. It’s a Work horse. Even as it is long. In the tooth as it is now it’s still holds it on. You’ll have fun. Hang in there.
I'm going to write this off as a bug in Steam VR. Since the Index 1.0 is being discontinued soon I doubt it will get fixed. I'll just live with the factory firmware since any updates are likely to degrade performance anyway.
