Can't get Valve Index, controllers or base station firmware updated
Just purchased the complete Valve Index set with the headset, controllers and base stations. Everytime I start Steam VR up it prompts for a firmware update for all the components. No matter which one I choose, a window flashes by saying "preparing system for device update" and then Steam restarts. Nothing is updated.

I've tried uninstalling and re-installing SteamVR, updating to the beta, going back versions. None of this works. I'm on a fully patched version of Windows 11. Any help would be great.

I’m gonna take a stab in the dark…

I am looking for an issue how to update the controllers. I’ve had the headset for a couple of years. While looking, I came across discussion about the steam game controller (the one like PlayStation and Xbox) they mention an issue, trying to update the firmware for that. The solution was to go back to an older version of the steam installation, they mentioned May 2023. There is some issues between how the steam VR portion integrates with the overall steam environment. And it seems somethings get left behind when the universe gets updated and the steam VR part doesn’t. I don’t know if this is going to help at all but look for steam controller update problem or can’t update steam controller.

I know it’s cold comfort, but once you get up and running, you were going to have fun. It’s a Work horse. Even as it is long. In the tooth as it is now it’s still holds it on. You’ll have fun. Hang in there.

The headset and everything else works fine, it just won't update to the latest version. I installed Steam on my laptop, connected the headset and attempted to upgrade the firmware through that but it didn't work either (window flashes by and Steam restarts).

I'm going to write this off as a bug in Steam VR. Since the Index 1.0 is being discontinued soon I doubt it will get fixed. I'll just live with the factory firmware since any updates are likely to degrade performance anyway.

Been having the same issue for years, can't update any base station or controller without steamvr crashing and not updating the device
