SteamVR Failed to Initialize (Error 109)
When I try to launch SteamVR it says error 109 and Compositor not available. Clicking the link to launch the compositor does nothing. Any suggestions on how to fix this issue? Thanks.

Please send a SteamVR system report to Steam Support so we can help troubleshoot. Thanks!

Delete the steamvr.vrsettings file in "C:\Steam\config" (replace C with your drive letter). Then uninstall SteamVR and re-install. Should fix it fine!

Had this issue and finally figured out a solution. Went into Nvidia control panel, manage 3d settings, program settings, added all of the SteamVR apps (Compositor, Server) and now SteamVR launches fine. These apps defaulted to the integrated intel graphics instead of my 1080gtx which was causing the 109 error.

For reference, I am using an Alienware laptop with graphics amplifier.

I had to unplug my Wacom 13HD to make the error messages go away.

For anyone Having a 109 - 400 Issue, and so steam devs are aware. It seems tied to outputs on video card in some way. I have a Gigabyte G1 1070 running 4 monitors (3 displayport, 1 DVI) and i couldn't get my Vive working again until i unpluged one of the DP monitors.

Hope that helps someone.

I was getting this error. I had to plug the oculus into the main video card (I'm running 3x GTX 960's in SLI), and then it worked. Don't know if this will help in your case, but my other monitor works fine running on the 2nd video card. :steamhappy:

I have the 109 / 301 issue too, I'm usuing a 980 ti (SC) and the HTC vive is using the HDMI port. I tried usuing the Nvidia control pannel, deleting the config file, and a fresh install of steam VR and nvidia's software. Nothing is working, halp!
also, the steamVR application runs with about a 7 second deley, anyone else getting this problem?

I had this problem when I got my new monitor.

I have the NVIDIA 1080 Founder's Edition, and my new monitor is the DELL U2715H. After a bunch of restarting, reinstalling, etc, I disconnected my new display with Window's Display Settings and VR _immediately_ worked.

I don't know if it's something about having 4 monitors (new one is my 4th) or that specific monitor.

Anyway, hope that helpful for someone else!

My own testing seems to suggest the Nvidia 10 series can only run 4 outputs similtaniously, even though it has 5 Different outputs.
