VR freezing pc
i am using my oculus quest 2 to play VR games on my pc using steam vr and i just keep getting my screen lagging at 0.5 FPS not even keeping up with my head and inputs. after a couple of times of it happening (i constantly have to disconnect and reconnect my headset to fix it) it just froze my pc and i had to completely cut the power to actually restart it.
specs:
gtx 1660 super
ryzen 5 3600
16 GB of ram

it isn't a PC issue i am pretty sure. i can run games at perfectly fine framerates but usually at loading screen they just like to kill themselves

You should make sure you have enough space on your hard drive to take some load and make sure you don't have other things running in the background using all your resources. Also, give the computer a few software power cycles to get it to do some cleanup. Finally, check to make sure your RAM is well seated and still working properly.

i have been using this pc for 2 years by now. i have ran way more intensive games than half life alyx and elite dangerous (the games where the freezing was happening on). i highly doubt something in my pc is wrong and i am sure it's steam vr seeing from it's ridicilous usage

I think you are right. The latest update of SteamVR is breaking my PC as well. Also the Beta version does the same. It is for sure SteamVR as I just played MSFS via OpenXR WMR only and I’m running this on all settings ultra and runs like a charm. Starting SteamVR and playing for example Ultimate Fishing Simulator all stuttering even audio and then completely crashing. I’m with you, it is not PC but latest SteamVR release

FYI RyZen 7 5800, 32GB, RTX3090, G2

try to update to the beta on the oculus app on windows by going to beta and Public Test Channel if I'm not wrong then restart it. v31 has been there a few weeks now and have solved plenty of issues regarding Link/AirLink, also as of a couple of updates ago, SteamVR updated some things so Quest users may have a better experience. Been great for me so far and my rig is not as powerful as yours (1650 Super, 8Gb ram, i7-6400t). Also be sure to lower the Link bitrate and get the SteamVR resolution out of "Auto". The only real solution for now is to wait until oculus stops rendering the output twice, since it renders the output on SteamVR AND on the oculus app, and that is a hard hit on performance.

Seems hybrid systems affected more AMD MB-CPU with Nvidia GPU. I have no VR issues in MSFS and SW Squadrons. But War Thunder crashes constantly in VR but not in monitor play.

Its not just you man or WMR. I've tested this on 3 different headsets. Valve Index, Oculus Quest 2, and Oculus Rift CV1. All of them end in the same result. Its likely either the most recent W10 updates broken something like always with their ♥♥♥♥♥♥ code, or Valve broke something in SteamVR. Either way it goes it seems like there some kind of driver conflict that's causing VR games to just fail. This doesn't happen in Oculus Store titles, only in SteamVR.

I've been having this issue for a few months now. Even restored my system just recently to be greeted with the same problem. Tried contacting Steam support about it a couple months ago, but apparently they weren't even aware this issue exists. Maybe they do now, but they didn't seem too keen in wanting to fix this. In fact they assumed it was user error, something wrong with W10, or my PC and not SteamVR.

Either way, the only way were getting this ♥♥♥♥ fixed if we open tickets and bug both Microsoft and Steam about this. Someone should eventually get off their ass and fix this crap so we can go back to being able to use the product we paid for. Otherwise, we're gonna be stuck with this problem for god knows how long.
