Any way to start SteamVR without running Steam?
I am using Samsung Odyssey. For a period I can just run non-steam games in SteamVR without starting Steam itself, but now starting SteamVR will also trigger Steam. I'd really like to see steam not running because it will sure use up more resources. Any way for that?

I forgot the exact method I used some years ago when testing alpha hardware, but I do recall using this (now standard) directory to gain direct access (usually here by default installation): C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SteamVR\bin\win64 :Box_throw:

However, I do not believe you will gain any noticeable difference in terms of resources, as the Steam Client is ultra efficient (even on Windows OS :claugh:): https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1369785754

Steam doesn't cause aby measurable drop in performance of anything.

It doesn't do anything in the background.

You can run
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SteamVR\bin\win64\vrstartup.exe
or similar (the exact location of your Steam may vary).
You can even copy the SteamVR directory to another machine and run SteamVR there without the need to install Steam at all. It's a pain that it is so difficult to get OpenVR without a Steam install.

All of this will also automatically start Steam in the background. The same happens with any other Steam game, VR or non-VR.

The Steam-client will always start and check the validity of your license.

Well that is why Valve gives out openVR for free for developers, free to use, but the user has to get Steam to install it, and if they all ready got Steam.. maybe they get some games? :D:

Its the same like they do with retailer keys

That's the one I wanna know: how does one play Steam VR through Rift S without having to run Oculus Home at the same time?

old thread, but some may find this useful: when I start vrmonitor.exe (search in steamapps/SteamVR) then it will start my Valve Index without starting Steam. It also does not ask me to login to Steam.

I can then run non-Steam VR apps.
