New SteamVR Beat Super Sampling Is a Step in the Wrong Direction.
I very much dislike the new super sampling rendering method. To me it is a major step backwards. It used to make the image clearer and crisper. Now it seems to do very little in compairison. The image gets no clearer on SS 2.0 or 3.0. Very dissapointing. Rolling back from the beta, but I'm really worried that this current SS method will make it into final release and ruin SS for me.

Just adding my 2c so hopefully this gets noticed. The new supersampling results in a lot more blur for me - it's not nice at all.

I'm so glad I saw this before I started troubleshooting the issue. I hadn't used my Vive in a while, but had upgraded to the beta, and adjusted my SS in the settings (instead of using OpenVR Advanced Settings). It didn't occur to me that *that* was the culprit. Thanks for the heads up. Hopefully we can make enough noise for Valve to respond with a fix.

+1 Gotta agree, Had to revert back to non-beta to get my crisp and clear image back. the new beta SS is way worse looking and on top of that, the performance does not get better.

I just downgraded and tested 3 games.

Paddle up
Eleven: Table Tennis VR
Music inside (unreal engine) - Text is sharper and easier to read.

And the graphics looks objectively better on the stable branch but the performance is still the same.

Please don't push this on the stable branch

I did some testing, It seems the Application SS settings doesn't seem to work anymore, but Compositor SS still works and seems to render games at higher res. This is bad for games that have in game SS options and adaptive SS. Boosting up the SS doesn't do anything any more. This means games using adaptive SS like the LAB no longer see any benefit with rendering on a higher end system.

We are using adaptive sampling in our game to automatically increase or decrease render quality based on the system. Before, our game looked amazing on a gtx 1080 because it was able to do Supersampling and make everything look crisp even with default SteamVR settings. Now, it doesn't improve itself and is clamped to 1. This is very frustrating as a dev as we took the time to make sure it works to improve quality.

This NEEDS to be fixed ASAP.

I noticed it too, suddenly the 1.3x supersampling which i use looks terrible.

I have also noticed this. Hopefully patches can be rolled out soon. Looks horrible.

My favorite app and hobbies (DCS World in VR) was negatively affected by this issue. Happy to know it's being addressed so quickly!

Never realized there was a supersample slider in steamvr beta. Sadly its broken for me as well. Also the reboot option is broken. Awaiting fix.
