Single-Player Version?
I'm curious about this myself. I know that back on BYOND it was an immense game with multiplayer and whatnot, but would there ever be a single-player version, or a drop-in drop-out coop? Sometimes i like playing games for the story aspect, but things can be hectic at times in some servers, more or less PvP ones.

I'm actually curious about if a single-player would work. Sure some parts of the game has points where a full party of people helps, but it makes me wonder if it's possible to have one. All offline, or partially offline, either way, it sounds nice to me.

If you purchase the game, you're able to create your own local servers, which you can play on by yourself or host for others to join, if you so wish. Saves are server-side, so anything you do on that server won't carry over to other servers, just to give a heads up.

The latest version of the game allows people to host and play the game on local servers. Drop in/Drop out co-op is possible, though all savefiles are stored server-side right now so your character will be tied to whatever server you join. You can play the game in single player mode offline if you prefer.

Sounds interesting. It would possibly save on future server costs at least.

Thank you for explaining also.

How viable is this exactly? Is there a huge difference between online mode, and offline single player? Can the progress you make offline be carried over online if you're the one hosting yourself?

I would like to know the exact mechanics of all this. I too am very interested in the game, but not if I'm forced to play with complete strangers. Can the game be completed solo, or do I have to get on my knees and beg all my friends to play with me only to have them laugh at me for not playing Call of Duty?

I also saw it mentioned somewhere that "offline mode" is really just a demo that only takes you to level 10 or something. Could I get a comfirmation on this?

You can play the full game offline so long as you have purchased it. The level 10 restriction is for unpaid users playing the game in demo mode.

Pretty much any monster in the game can be recruited to fight alongside you as an AI controlled companion, which is what allows solo players to progress through the game without human party members. You can play through the whole game solo, but will probably have a lot of trouble in the optional "end game" dungeon without human party members.

Thanks for the quick reply.

When you say "purchased," you mean through Steam, correct? As in, no additional fees? No subscriptions, etc.? Just the current price listed on the Steam store page?

Also, can the character I make offline be played with friends if I host myself?

Yes, you can purchased the game through Steam or through our website. It's a one-time purchase with no additional fees or micro-transactions, and all future updates and content expansions will be free.

Very nice. You may have just sold another copy today. :-)

Yes, though because savefiles are only stored server-side right now, your friend's characters will only live on your server. We'll have a client-side saving option available soon.

Thanks for the quick responses. That in itself has pretty much sold me. I'll be taking the plunge later tonight. :-)

Thank you again!

Thanks, I'm happy to help. So long as you're only playing in single player mode you can always demo the game before you buy it by downloading it directly from our website: http://silkgames.com/nestalgia/download.html

Any characters that you create in demo mode will carry over to the full game in single player game without restrictions.

At any rate, I hope that you enjoy the game :-)

Just want you to know, I bought a bloody 3-pack just because you're so responsive and helpful. :P (Hopefully the extra copies won't be wasted on my friends with ADD.)

Tried it out privately for about an hour, and so far I'm loving it. Chatted online for about 5 minutes on a public server just to get a feel for it, and it was surprisingly tame. Can't wait to dig into it some more.

How can I play a single-player game without creating a server or logging on to Steam? Is there a menu or option to do so? Whenever I start Nestalgia it opens up a login screen, and from there, to a page where it asks me to create a server or log on to a multiplayer game. I just want to play the game solo without having to log in to Steam or be connected to the internet.

you can't. but...why can't you just play by yourself?

of corse, on that note, why can't you just play on a actual server?

playing solo is boring, multiplayer makes it really fun :)

but...really tho, its not like literally any game ever even allows you to play some sort of psudo single player without you running the game anyway.
