Freedom Planet
Tried the game on the E3 Nintendo eShop preview
Can't say I liked it, the controls felt really floaty and weird, the character designs made me uncomfortable, and you can't trick me buckos I know about that voice acting and if I am to get the story via that I will have to mute my audio every time and just read.

The game seems like it's fantastic, but this preview made me seriously reconsider buying it. Plus why would I buy this on the eShop for full price when it's 5 dollars on steam, I don't get it.

Great response.

Gotta agree. Had reservations about this one since launch, and while I respect their attempt, it just fell flat on too many key areas to be worth it IMO. The story could be decent, if I could tolerate the voicework to make it through the scenes. Maybe it's because I'm 32, but I can watch MLP without facepalming or feeling as uncomfortable as this one makes me. For $5 I am tempted, but there are much better options for the same or less, such as Ristar for example (another gem from Sonic Company).

Well... Use the potential power of Steam Refunds. Buy the game, choose classic mode and before 2 hours of gameplay make your decision if this game is for you.

If this won't convince you, then you will get your money back. While I can understand the sceptitism, I would say that this game has such potential to give awesome gaming experience, that It's worth trying out. Many people throwed away their doubts about this game after one longer session, so maybe you are one of them?

Just look at the positive reviews percentage. How in the world a "Sonic fangame" can get 97% out of >1000 opinions even with the questionable story and voice-acting? There IS something there that people like and dissatisfaction rate is pretty slim.

Hm, i didn't tried eShop version ('cause E3), but maybe it's really "floaty and weird" in term of control? Can you try free demo of Steam version and tell if there's a difference, Velocifapper? (cool nickname btw)
i got it on the summer sale and am pleased with my purchase. the only problem i have so far is the bosses are way too durable. after the opening cinematic i turned off story mode so dont care about that.

It could also be because you're a brony and you love that crap.

I think how the voice acting is done is intended to replicate the average localized PS1 game.

YOU FOOL! :O What were you expecting? They aren't a major gaming studio that can spend cuckoo money for an orchestra and hugely famous voice actors.

For me, I actually didn't mind the voice acting to this game. I thought it felt fitting to the characters. The story was done fairly well. It had more story than any Sonic game out there. The music was fantastic, and the game mechanics worked well.

Freedom Planet is an influenced and inspired genre throwback of mid to late 90's PSX/Saturn 2D platformer Japanese import games. What did you except, a high budget 2D high speed platformer game? The voice acting was intented to be like that, I guess some of you have never played Tail Concerto or any other Japanese import games from PSX and Sega Saturn.

lol House of the Dead and the original RE1 voice acting brings back painful memories.

Floaty? Seriously? =/
I didn't experience that at ALL in the demo on the Wii U. The gameplay is practically the exact same as the PC version.

The Steam version has slightly more to offer than the Wii U demo. However, if you download the Wii U demo before 6/22. You'll get a 15% off discount of the game when it's released.

If the voice acting bothers you that much, you can play 'Classic Mode', which omits the vast majority of the story (random lines of dialogue in stage and a voicles version of the ending still occur).

I encourage people to try the demo on Steam, or on our website for a more complete look. The Wii U demo was a special case but there will be a FULL version of that demo on the e-Shop when the game launches, promise. As for floaty controls, I don't know what to tell you, the demo is built off the same source code used in the Steam version and at best the most common complaint we get is that the controls aren't as floaty and momentum based as classic Sonic titles... so I'm wondering if you may have controller lag.

I'd also like to comment and say the Wii U demo definately doesn't really give a full feel of our soundtrack. Woofle made well over a hundred tracks to the game and the opening / first couple of level sections really doesn't encompass a lot of what the game has to offer.

And yeah, downloading that special demo is more or less a coupon for 15% off at launch.

I would also like to add that the Wii U e-Shop demo featured with the E3 promotion is not our full demo. Nintendo asked us to cut a certain length of a demo for their reel and that's all we were allowed to put in. (We actually had much more to show originally.) So yeah, this doesn't fully represent, it will get you 15% off and is a small taste. We'll be putting in a full demo for the game after it launches.
