When characters get disintegrated, are the sprites feathers or some variant of life petals?

Something that has really confused me and really is never addressed. Obviously the title states my question but when the playable characters get disintegrated or in other situations, are they feathers or some form of life petals? I know this concept is in place as a counter-censorship against blood but I am genuinely curious.

In the game, the character designs do not support the idea that they are feathers, since obviously none of them are birds. Also the sprites don't really match with the idea that they are feathers.

I was thinking for Carol and Lilac they would be some sort of leaves based on their namesake.
Other characters? I don't know.

I generally view it as a cartoonish method to say "This boss has can and will stunlock you, learn to dodge."

Milla is a shortened name rooting from Camilla.

But yeah, as far as I know we settled on Petals. Which is why you pick up petals to restore life and why Lilac is healed via petals after that one scene.
