We’re excited to share that our new Plague Inc. Fake News Scenario is now available to play on Plague Inc: Evolved!

In the radically different Fake News scenario, players can create their very own Fake News story and deceive the world using modern tools and psychological tricks. From wild conspiracy theories to election campaign mudslinging, we now live in a post-fact world where falsehoods and misinformation can spread like a disease...

“Just like a deadly pandemic, the spread of misinformation is a huge threat to our society,” said Plague Inc. creator James Vaughan.

“When designing this new update for Plague Inc., it was scary how many of our infection algorithms translated perfectly to the world of false facts, fake news and bad information. Full Fact are a hugely powerful resource that everyone should use to make sure they really know what is going on.”

In order to make the Fake News scenario as realistic as possible, Ndemic has partnered with UK fact checking charity Full Fact, and has also received help from other international fact checkers, such as Politifact in the US.

Partly based on their experiences, the scenario is a heightened view into the extremes of misinformation and the serious consequences it can have for our democracies, health and society.

“Full Fact exists to fight the causes and consequences of bad information,” said Will Moy, Chief Executive of Full Fact.

“We know from experience the harm it can do to lives and communities, whether undermining trust in our democracy or putting our health at risk.”

“The Fake News update in Plague Inc. will reach millions more people, helping them to understand the real threat that bad information poses.”

“Players can then join the fight against bad information for real. Full Fact is an independent, impartial charity, and we rely on the support of thousands of individuals across the country to stand up for good information and change public debate for the better.”

Checked the achievement unlock criteria and... while Gamergate may have claimed to be about journalism, at its heart it was an ex-boyfriend feeling salty that his GF had a new guy, after they'd broken up.
So he keeps it classy by harassing them with false accusations of misconduct... which then ballooned with like-minded salty boys who for some reason or another wanted to harass some more women who worked in video game journalism, game development, and the like. And so on and so forth.

So to sum up, "journalists" would be the fake target, from the abusers' narrative; the group's real targets were all women, that was the pattern.
It also wasn't for the lols (as the criteria seem to indicate), it was revenge and got quite ugly in a number of cases (harassment, death threats, doxxing, victims being forced to move).

Played this and eliminated truth as CNN (Felt that'd be a fitting name just as much as any other news organization), but of course you shouldn't just take my word for it.

Really, developed with Politifact? The same one that (on multiple occasions) ended up fact checking politicians who were quoting them and called them liars because they weren't favored (note: both Rs and ill-favored Ds)?

Or is this meta, and I'm supposed to think the Fake News scenario IS fake news since it gives a fluffed version of communism and a "scary" non-definition of fascism (communism is defined as "social ownership and control of production" - which is not communism and leaves out far-left and fascism with buzzwords of "far-right authoritarian ultra nationalists")", thus I've won before I began?!?! HELP!! MATRIX!!! O.o

FWIW, I am actually cool with both ideals being in the scenario, both are dangerous. I just find it hilarious on a scenario of fake news, PI coyly slips in the definition of social democracy for communism and omits it's far left. Even the adherents is slipped in as "believers of philosophy" over "affiliates and followers", which in plain English means communists are just waxing poetic while fascists are mindless sheep and networks of evil-doers. This is, also by definition, itself "fake news" (as it now broadly applies to any situation in which there is intentional misleading). Both spread absurdity "for the cause".

Also, wish cults were on there! :D I mean, I know Illuminati is on there, but isn't that redundant with The Elite? :)
