Just saying. The only thing I've liked so far since I've been playing is Kai reminds me of the good ol days of having Garus in my party.

And I gotta say, the weapons I wanna use are just trash and you have to have a spell book with you always just to make sure you have elemental advantages over the environment. You are really locked in to how they want you to play and it's not fun.

That's not true. You have "throwables" of every element type so you can clear environment obstacles. I'm not using a spellbook at all.

Have you been upgrading your weapons? They are anything but "trash". I loved my great hammer, and found some nice swords / shield as well. As for needing a spellbook, it's not completely required because you can have grenades to replicate all elemental effects.

Yep, and if you invest a single ability point in the corresponding spell you can cast it even without a spellbook.

I'm having no issues on normal. There are always items nearby you can use to deal with stuff requiring elemental attacks, and you should end up with a stockpile. While I do use a spellbook, I'm too lazy to switch it out, so I use items all the time. If you genuinely think the weapons are trash, maybe you haven't bothered levelling them up or are playing on too high of a difficulty. There's a reason games have difficulty settings, and it's not so people pick one that's too high for their preferred playstyle and then moan about it being too difficult lol-
