How do I leave the atmosphere of a planet?
Sorry if this is stupid, but i can't seem to leave the atmosphere of this planet i'm on. I keep trying to fly a ship up into space, but I can't seem to do it. i just lose all speed and crash. Thanks to anyone helping.

And for the record, i did all of the tutorials save for the last one.

You need hydrogen thrusters and plenty of hydrogen to get to space. And plenty more hydrogen to fly around in Space until you can get platinum for ion thrusters. And you really need a massive amount of hydrogen to do so.

Hydrogen seems to be the only way to go. Air thrusters stall out too early (less atmosphere) and normal thrusters arent powerful enough to break atmosphere even when you get as high as you can with air thrusters.

I find that hydrogen thrusters are the best way to do it, its a nice smooth transition from ground to space, if you can get off the ground then you'll make it all the way out.

If you really want to save on fuel then use air to get about 5000 meters then use hydrogen to break atmosphere then finally stick to normal thrusters once your out in space.

Alright, i suppose my next question would be, do you have any YouTube videos or something for beginners? I'm trying to navigate the wiki and the forums but I think I should just watch and learn visually or something. Thanks a bunch!

W4stedspace on YouTube is currently doing some tutorials although there's only 2 out so far and to do with your first planetary landing and building a rover for exploration.

you could also try combining Ion Thrusters and the atmospheric thrusters so you can leave the planet just be aware of the weight of your ship

As far as I know, that won't work, atmospheric thrusters don't get you high enough for ion thrusters to be useful or enough to get you in orbit

Well put some Hydro thrusters and you are good to go jsut remmeber they needs lots of hydro also dont forget to put ion thrusters in all side of the ship . front , back , left , right , down and on top becasue when in space you wont be able to stop. Also dont forget the 10 .9 .8.7.6.5.4.3.2.1 We have lift off......

You can escape only with ION + Atmospheric. it works both for small ship / large ship. you need to balance weight / thruster power well together though.

How do you make Ion engines without platinum on the planet?

Use my Blueprint for a space scout. 100% hydrogen based and will get you to space easily, all vanilla no mods.

You can put a medium cargo container and connector on the back and fill it up and it will still make it into orbit with no problem. I use this as my base model in case I want to add grinders on the front or gatlings.
