I can see why this game won an award!

Hi. I bought Aquaria after having played Dive: The Medes Islands Secret from Big Fish Games. That game was lots of fun. I enjoyed exploring the depths of the ocean and discovering the secrets. It has a good story, but it's not as long and complex as Aquaria's.

I started a new Aquaria game because I played for a few hours, got sidetracked, and forgot the beginning. I've just been swimming around the Turtle Cave. This is currently my favorite game! The art, music, and story has captivated me! I'm not very good at the boss fights, so it's taking me longer than it would for most people to progress. I'm guessing I've made it halfway through (?), and I've played a total of 25-30 hours, including the first game I started.

This game is so immersive and fun that I've decided to recommend it and buy it for my future daughter-in-law. I'm surprised the forums aren't busier. I read somewhere that the game wasn't a successful venture for the devs. What a shock! The game is fantastic. I wish them all the best, and I sure would like to play a sequel. :-)

FINALLY! Someone that agree with me! To me, this is the best Indie Game ever made, with the best history ever! I have no word to express how much I love ths game! And about the game progress: When playing a first time, you may take a few hours (like 8-12) to beat it, but after you do, you can beat it in like 3-4 hours. I won't spoil anything, but I can assure you: You will really like the ending. Too bad that even after the "Continues" message after the ending scene (that is, if you find all the lost memories to see the real ending), Bit Blot developers said that they were working on a differente project. I can help you if you have any difficult playing this game, cuz I beated it like 15 times (I know, I'm really addicted).

PS: I even made a guide teaching how to find all the Lost Memories.

Thank you for offering to help. I will probably check your guide for tips. I've been trying to play it without checking a walkthrough, although I have to admit that I've looked online to make sure I'm using the right strategies for the bosses, that I haven't missed anything that I'll need to proceed to the next level, and for recipes/ingredients. Crafting and exploring are my favorite things to do in video games. I don't want the game to end, but at the same time, I'm looking forward to more of the story. :-)

I do have a question. I'm trying to get the Urchin Costume, but I can't jump high enough. Will I be able to do it later in the game? I don't have a controller, and it's difficult for me to play platformers due to not being able to jump very well.

It's is not super complicated.
Use Hot Soup to boost your speed. You will be able to reach the bubble with the buff.

And yes, Aquaria is trully incredible experience, this is my fav indie game of all time and also in group with Bioshock and Spec Ops: The Line as ultimate favorites.

It's is not complicated

Thanks for replying. I tried the Hot Soup, but I find it hard to control Naija, and therefore, I can't jump past the top of the bubble that's directly below the one I need to reach. It might be because I lack the coordination to do the jump. I have Fibromyalgia, too. Jumping a lot causes pain in my hand, arm, and shoulder.

I like the game. It was a little bit complicated at first since I had no idea what I had to do and I think that's why most people play it for an hour and then give up. All you have to do is explore the grey parts of the map. Aquaria is all about exploring.

I finished the game and right now I'm working on the Explorer (which I can't seem to finish for some reason) achievement and Super chef.

I think this game deserved a bit more recognition but I think it lacked advertising.

To jump higher make sure you do a speed boost (space bar if you play with keyboard and mouse) just before you hit the surface. Also if you need to jump even higher you can use Royal Soup instead of Hot Soup. It gives +2 speed instead of +1.

Combine Hot Soup with any Meat to make Hearty Soup, then combine the Hearty Soup with Veggie Cake (Sea Cake + Leaf Plant) to get Royal Soup.

To Davey: To get the Explorer achivement you also need to find the hidden area with the 2 Weird Sish. If you check my profile I have a video there showing how to there.

The other areas that you might have missed are:
Inside the Whale, Ice Cavern/Frozen Veil/Bubble Cave, the area with the mimic (that gives you the 3rd cooking slot), The long winding cave the goes between 2 areas of the Open Waters, Octopus Cave and the area leading up to the final boss (the 4th part of The Body).

Do I need Li right away? I'd prefer to leave him in the cave unless Naija needs him for quests. Thanks for any help.

Hey. Li can attack creatures too but if you don't want to bring him it's ok. I beat the game pretty much without Li since I couldn't bother to go back to his cave and take him with me lol. However, you will need Li for one quest where he has to open a gate that only he can open..

You only "need" Li to access The Sunken City and in the final part of the game. Other than that you can leave him in his cave.

Davey if you still have problems list what collectables/pets you are missing (as in which slots are empty). If I remember correctly all optional map areas with the exception of The Weird Fish, and inside the whale have at least one item/form/pet in it.

Hello. Thanks, guys! I really appreciate the help. I finally got the Urchin Costume! Strangely, I tried the Royal Soup and missed, so I used Hearty Soup as it's all I had left. Got it with only a few tries. I was also able to get Naija to sleep in the clam. Yesterday, all she would do is sit there. Not sure what I was doing wrong. I think my cheap mouse is about to quit working. :-)

I will just leave Li in the cave for now.

You can only sleep in a clam in beast form. There's some creature interaction you can only do in beast form, but this is the only case i remember right now.
