FPS / LAG - **Disabling audio drivers fixes it**
So, I have been unable to play Watch Dogs since release, I've been trying to troubleshoot the issue for quite a while now.

I noticed something odd, I have a GTX 760 and when I disable my sound via the device manager, everything runs perfectly. (Nvidia audio drivers)

Before my GPU usage wouldn't go above 25%. now it gets closer to 100%.

GTX 760,
i7 950,
12GB DDR3 ,
EVGA FTW3

& I'm using HDMI to send the audio to my speaker system through my TV.

I disabled my Nvidia Sound Drivers and holy crap did it improve, I still get slight stutter when driving on a mix of high and med on my AMD Athlon 645, 4gb Ram, and GTX 750ti but holy crap its totally playable now, no stutter when doing anything else though.

Thank you! I tried everything and its this that worked. I still get sound from the realtek drivers so all is well!

Would like to test this but when I try to add -nosound to the shortcut target for Watch Dogs it's not disabling the sound. Anyone know why this might be the case?

The -nosound launch option command helped quite a bit on foot. But I still get a screwton of massive spikes when driving. Granted, my current PC's RAM is below minimum. But I'm just afraid these issues will come back to haunt my new PC.

However, disabling the NVIDIA drivers did not seem to improve anything. Noticeably, anyway.

Someone should definitely bring this to Ubisoft's attention.

On-board sound is a joke, spend $50+ on a dedicated sound card.

well that could be the problem, has anyone reported this to ubisoft though? I don't think they move out of there comfort zone to come to steam.

Just tried -nosound in steam launch properties, boosted my game as well and I'm using amd.

Should report this in the PC section of WD on the Ubisoft forums. I believe there's some fairly active community managers in there that check on these types of threads fairly often. At least, in the Assassin's Creed section, from my experience.

tried this got a 20fps boost, and my gpu hit 70% usage instead of 30%

OK i can pretty much confirm that this completely solved my stuttering issues up to 90%
its still there, but now its barely even noticable. I get about 50-60fps at 1080p, high textures and high preset with 2x TXAA. This is seriously stupid to think that this effects gpu usage even though I didnt even choose to install the NVIDIA HD audio device drivers. Thank you OP for bringing this to my attention im soooo happy I can finally enjoy the games atmosphere without it being ruined by stutter when my PC should be able to handle it perfectly fine. THANKYOU!!!!! TELL UBI THIS ♥♥♥♥!!!!!

(btw this fix doesnt mean I dont have in game sound, im using a sound blaster x-fi for sound, so disabling these makes no changes except better framerate.)

Intel i5 2500K @ 4.3ghz
GTX 680 2GB
16GB DDR3 1866mhz

For me the issue was Anti-Aliasing. Once updated to the latest drives, and then downsampled by image, I lowered by Anti-Aliasing to Temporal SMAA. Works like a charm now.

Everything else is on ultra.

I see.

So it's definitely related to the game sound itself.
