Item Losses Fix [GUIDE] (After Patch 6/6/2014)
Hello everyone, Firstly this guide isn't to be done by everyone as it involves the Registry of your Computer, Extreme care and cation should be taken when entering the registry!

This is reported to not work for everyone but maybe you'll be lucky

Registry Save:
Click Start and in the Search box just above the Start button type in "regedit".
The registry will now be loaded on your screen.

Once the Registry is open you'll need to follow this direct path to finding 'The Forest'

HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > SKS > The Forest

Once you're in this location, it would be a good idea to make a backup

To do this Click File - Export and then call the .reg backup "Old save" and place that somewhere on your computer in a safe location.

Once you've done that you will want to Right click "__RESUME___h4231682524" (this might be different numbers on other machines) and press Delete.

You can now close your Registry.

Load the game and play just as you would normally, the save works and when you do return to the game you'll have your items in your Inventory.

AppData Save:

Click Start and in the Search box just above the Start button type in "%appdata%".

You'll see a folder called 'Roaming' - Click it and once the folder location has opened you'll want to go back a folder in the address bar to AppData.

Follow this route through the folders:

LocalLow > SKS > TheForest

Once you're in TheForest folder you'll want to move out the 'PlayerPrefsFile___RESUME__.dat' file to your desktop or somewhere safe.

Once that has been moved, load your game and press 'LOAD' and you should spawn in the Plane.

Happy gaming and a shoutout to Mikesla
For discovering the Registry/Folder location.

Try loading again after collecting quite a few items. Let me know.

If that is the case to it being short lived as a user defined fix then I suppose gathering less items will be in order until a real fix gets released.

But as for now and it's succession rate it's a nice alternative until then.

Yeah but the game still loads the broken crap if it's present from the registry (i think).

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SKS\TheForest\]

Copy the above into notepad or similar, save it as text file .txt and rename the extension from .txt to .reg, double-click on the file and apply Yes. This will remove all actual settings, including broken save files. Might be easier for people that don't know what the heck regedit is.

This doesn't do anything. The game doesn't even use that file after the patch, everything is moved to AppData\LocalLow\SKS\TheForest.

It worked for me and many fair few others who have played before the save fix / patched for the save.

My game didn't load the old save, I tried when I delete the "__RESUME___h4231682524" to 'LOAD' while in game to see if it indeed deleted the save and it did, I was in my base, safe and happy, but itemless. However after deleting the registry key I was in a nasty plane crash meaning that the previous save had been deleted.

Commented. I'll try this when I get home and will report back. But first let me ask you this..

For me everything works fine, all my items are in my inventory from loading a save.

Every computer on this planet has different outcomes, mostly similar, they are trying to fix this game to work with a lot of computers that are compatible to play every inch of development and update they process for this game.

In other words, every computer has a different outcome when it comes to Alpha games, even in Beta, but not as bad, so this guy/gal is probably lucky.

I followed the instructions and this isn't working for me. Started a new game after deleting the registry file, built a hunting camp and saved. I closed the game and loaded the save. Same items as usual missing from my inventory, and not able to be picked up afterwards.
