Yeah babies are pretty scary. One hit took all my armor and about 50% of health. I'm not sure if it was a bugged hit like the natives do sometimes insane damage in one hit too or just kill you if you don't have full armor. Might be lag or something at play registering the hit multiple times or something as I mostly play online with my friends, hard to say for sure it's certainly not the case every time.

One time I was looking down a cliff where I killed an Armsy with arrows and a Cannibaby launched from the gully, struck me in the face, and launched me upwards of around 60 or so feet and I died when I hit the ground...
