Well. I mean, I got the bow without it. Now I can't get out of that damn cave. I made it in with like 10% health but can never identify the passage opening accurately enough to make it back to the area with the Virginia. Damn it.

Nice to know. I have not tried it myself, but I always wanted to get it without the rebreather. I have, however, confirmed that the climbing axe is almost useless. Heck, I fully explored the chasm cave without it before I even knew it existed. lol
