Nuclear Throne
Wasteland Kings Together (an online multiplayer mod)
Link: http://yellowafterlife.itch.io/wasteland-kings-together
Available for Windows and Linux.

I have made a mod for Wasteland Kings (the jam version of Nuclear Throne) that adds local and online multiplayer for up to 4 players.
There are some other changes and additions too:
  • Improves movement and collisions to be on par with those of NT.
  • Fixes crashes originally present in the jam version of the game.
  • Adds a settings screen, for those looking for a bit of a challenge.
  • Adds game options (volume, fullscreen, screen scale, controls).
  • Adds highly tweakable customizeable controls (see readme).
  • Adds Linux support (originally not present in the jam version).

Online multiplayer comes in multiple flavours:
  • Ad-hoc: Standard issue - find your IP, open a port, have your friend(s) connect to you.
  • Matchmaking: A little dedicated server hosts a public game list and can save you from having to open ports. It doesn't always work, but when it does, it's nice.
  • Steam-based: If you own Nuclear Throne on Steam, you can download the "Steam" version of the mod, which uses Steam's systems to implement networking, matchmaking, and invitations, just as you would see in a pretty decent game on Steam.

Feedback is welcome

If the developer is here, I have beefs
http://oi57.tinypic.com/b3wv44.jpg

- The EXP Bar should be on display in the upper-middle part of the screen, since it's a shared EXP Bar. I could make a sprite for that.
- The Health Bars should either display character icons to the side to fill in that space, or not at all. Given that it's just the first five Wasteland Kings and Queen in this mod, I could provide icons for them (Giving me like five bucks over Paypal would be great for that but really I don't care)
- Rogue is not in this mod. This is not actually a problem, really.

Otherwise, I'm thoroughly impressed.

EDIT: Oh, YOU are the developer. Gears started turning long after the reply.

Official online co-op probably isn't happening, bud. Sorry.

EDIT: And it also won't go on sale till after it's fully released.

EXP bar makes sense. I've added that in now-released v1023:

Would rather not add icons - the UI is already getting pretty "crowded" as is with 4 players, and there are colors for telling players apart.
Content-wise it sure is behind the main game, but what to do -- if I was to use Update 19 as a basis, it would still be one year behind the main game, but I'd also have to spend several weeks migrating the game to GameMaker: Studio (and that's no fun).

As Darqfalls said, there are currently no announced plans of online coop in the main game. You could try playing it via some streaming\cloud gaming software but I personally could not get any of that to viably work.

While I still have a spark of hope that Vlambo decides to quackly do online co-op, atleast we will be able to enjoy the old game online.

Thank you YellowAfterlife, I was playing Wasteland Kings with my friend, this was so damn fun

But I noticed something:
- Player 2 can't choose mutation?
- If Player 1 dead, move to the next stage, and the mutation appear, Player 2 can't do anything, then we must be stop for quite long time.
I'm waiting for more updates from you. OMG I love this version so much.

That's so sad, but with the newest version of Nuclear Throne, can you use hamachi to play with your friend?

Player 1 (or, rather, the first active player) always chooses mutations, regardless of whether they are alive or not. I've mentioned this in the readme.

Hamachi just simulates a local network connection so that you don't have to configure port forwarding (like with this mod, for example). It can't do anything if the game does not have online multiplayer in the first place.

There's local coop (on the same computer), but not online coop (over the network).

Oh dear, I got it, thanks for answer my stupid question :steamfacepalm:

This is really incredible, makes me want online coop in the regular game even more.

Game's about as balanced as its been in quite a while, and is the most polished. I think online coop is the only thing the game could really majorly benefit from.

Shame that it probably won't happen, though.

I've updated the build a couple of times now, fixing some bugs (changelog is included in the download) and the reasonably-working discs can now be bounced with melee weapons.

Current subjects of discussion:
1. Should I add options for sharing health (stacking all player' health or taking an average?) and ammo, and would those go to the character selection screen?
2. Given that currently the difficulty doesn't really scale with the player number, should I add a NT-like hard mode? Or a settings screen full of sliders input fields for messing up all possible difficulty-related variables for that matter?
